Munson is the greatest living radio announcer period.

His game has dropped off the last few years but overall, it isn't even close to 2nd

I had the misfortune of living in GA for over 3 years. I've listened to him several times. He's no John Ward, but I still like him.

To each his own. I listened to him for several back in the 90's and loved it.

If you limit it to college sports, you're 100% correct.

If only Cawood Ledford was still alive. I hate for the dogs to be number one in any category.

Ugh.....I have nothing personal against the guy, it's a Georgia Bulldog thing.I wish John Ward would have hung around as long as Munson. Then Munson would be #2 for sure.

I've lived in GA most of my life. Even though I despise the Dawgs (they've gotten more irritating in recent years), I still like Larry Munson. If bulldogs could talk, they'd sound like him. He's revered in GA and has a near god-like status among the GA faithful.

He's still doesn't hold a candle to ol' John Ward though!!

He was a Vandy guy back in the day was he not? That would explain the broadcast perhaps.

And to all the Munson haters, you'd change your mind if you saw the windsuit walking around Athens. His 'entourage' has to be THE hottest I've seen. The guy puts Hugh Heffner to shame.

Some of Munson's well known calls include:
  • "Run Lindsay!...Lindsay Scott! Lindsay Scott! Lindsay Scott!...I broke my chair!" - calling Lindsay Scott's 92-yard touchdown run against Florida in 1980
  • "Hunker down, you guys!...I know I'm asking a lot, but hunker down one more time!" - in a defensive series late in the game against Auburn in 1982, which clinched the SEC title for Georgia
  • "Look at the sugar falling out of the sky!" - at the end of the Auburn game
  • "We just stepped on their face with a hob-nailed boot and broke their nose!" - calling Georgia's last-second win over Tennessee in 2001

Thanks for the memories. He is very well loved down here and mostly because he so homeristic (is this a word?) that he seems to live and die on each play. He definatley is not as professional as Ward but thats why we love him. Heck sometimes he doesnt even know the players names and it just just calls them "watchamacallit" or other various phrases. Listening to one of his broadcast can either make you laugh or cry depending on the outcome.

You missed the best one. His apoplectic call of Kevin Butler's 60 yard field goal to beat Clemson may be the best college football broadcasting sequence of all time.

I was thinking the same thing. "Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God! . . . . (dead air)." I probably would have said the same thing.

There was also the incredulous exasperation after seeing Hershel Walker turn Bill Bates into roadkill "My God! He's a Freshman?!"

My best LM memory goes back to when the Dogs came back to beat us with 2 minutes to go with David Greene at the helm, the comments LM made after that game just put the icing on a cake to what a horrid of a day I personally witnessed.I guess who ever made the brilliant call to kick the skid kick I should have steered my anger that way.:)

He is so overrated. Caught a GA game last year on the way back from Houston. And i swear to god he put me to sleep at the wheel. Munson couldnt hold John Ward's microphone. Hell Kessling is better than Munson.

I would rather hear Munson announcing through a fan than BK! Of course if BK were to talk through a fan, his lips would get cut off!:censored:

When a UGA game is on TV here in GA, the sound is turned down and the radio is turned on.

If you're in the WSB radio range, you have to listen to Munson's comments on movies. He and his posse (like I said, foxes galore) go to movies all the time and then he comments on them the next day on the radio. If you're in a chair, just go ahead and sit on the floor.
