Lane Kiffin lauds Johnny Majors as 'greatest Tennessee coach ever'

I may be wron so blast me, but i have a feeling he will be back here in some form. I hope Im wrong

Won't happen so long as Fulmer is AD.

But if Johnny were AD ... there's a pretty good chance we'd be talking about Coach Lane Kiffin right now. Johnny genuinely likes Kiffin and admires his expertise as an offensive coordinator. That said, I suspect Johnny also likes Kiffin even more since he was the guy who replaced Fulmer.

Johnny was a better X and O guy compared to Phil but Phil’s run in the mid 90s to early 2000s is better than any stretch that Majors put together on the Hill while he was coaching here.

It's true, but also true that Phil never has the run of success without Johnny.

There's a good argument to be made that Johnny was the greatest talent evaluator in college football history. It's insane how great he was at selecting assistant coaches. Fulmer's staff in the 90's was loaded with coaches hired by Johnny.

You take Peyton Manning out of the equation and Johnny and Phil have pretty similar runs of success. And don't forget, Johnny was 1 win away from competing for a national title in 1989.

Phil benefited a bit from Alabama being in disarray for most of the time he was there. Albeit, he did have to deal with playing Spurrier in his heyday, but Spurrier was gone from 2002 - 2008, and it didn't stop the decline.

I think the truth of the matter is that Johnny was great at some things Phil was bad at, and Phil was great at some things Johnny struggled with. For a magical period in the 90's we got the "best of both worlds"; Johnny's staff managed by Phil with Phil's top-notch recruiting.

Very good points. Johnny’s overall coaching success is better than Phil’s due to his time at PITT too (pre UT). It is really hard to say who the better recruiter was. Phil and his staff landed some studs.

No way he does all of this trolling, especially tagging Fulmer in this picture, if he wants to come back. He's just being a dick, like always.
I think he wants to be back here. There was article that he had help writing a few months back discussing his finding religion. I think it was sincere. One of the people that helped get religious was a UT chaplain who reached out to Lane not long ago and gave him a letter along with a book he wanted him to read.

I saw that, i still don't think he does all this if he sincerely wants to get back in Tennessee's good graces.

Hehe. I’d like to see Fulmer and Kiffin go toe to toe in their prime (obviously Kiffin never really had a head coaching prime - I guess he can have Bama for pity in this scenario). Fulmer would wipe the field with Kiffin.

You're probably right, but Phil wants to put us back on top bad and sometimes the devil you know is better than one you don't. He may swallow his pride of it brings us back to relevance
