Landing Nico is great, but…

From every indication “so far” Nico seems like a good kid and will handle all this well. I understand the concerns … I just imagine this board if, say UK or Ole Miss had landed him - many of these same “downers” would be saying “we never get anyone” and “what are WE doing wrong” … go figure … at some point “we” have to find a balance in a rational way - or maybe some people never will ? Take it for what it is and HOPE for the best.

I'm pretty excited about landing him. My only concern now is keeping players happy. It's another ball that needs to be juggled by the staff when you have 1 kid who's getting this huge deal and have other guys at the same position not getting that kind of deal. What if the kid turns out to be not that good? Does he still get the money if others at his position are playing at a higher level? Wouldn't that create some resentment among that position group? Does it also put pressure on the staff to play the kid getting the NIL money? I don't think it's the end of the world like some people think, but it will be interesting to see how coaching staffs adapt to this new wrinkle. I'd also like to see how these deals are structured, if it's just show up and get paid or are there performance benchmarks that need to be met.

I’m the OP. I keep hearing NEGA this and NEGA that. I don’t think I complained about getting NIco at all and I think I said that I’m thrilled that we got him. I’ll take 5 stars all day long and I don’t care how much we are willing to pay. I was trying to start a discussion about what excites us the most: the fact that we landed a 5 star QB or that fact that we were willing to pull the trigger on an NIL deal of this amount (because it shows that we are going to do what it takes to get top players). I think both are reasons to get excited. For all of you that were too lazy to read the post and got all butt hurt because you saw the word “but” in the title, settle down you little babies. It’s the off season- just trying to generate some discussions here. Lol. There is no but with me, this is great news.

You think the portal being what it is that players will stick around and compete? Now add NIL. If your son is a 24 qb and TN just signed this guy he should look at UT? Heupel will be under tremendous pressure to start this qb immediately, don’t kid yourself. Not pressure from the agency, from the fans. Any qb starting over him would be under so much scrutiny.
If he is the best he will start, fans want to win. I have no doubt he will be good, but he will earn the spot just like anything else. Despite what some think he liked UT and the coaches and players. It wasn’t solely on the NIL, he could have gotten money at other places. The kid has a good work ethic and humble, he wants to earn it. GBO!

Just posted this in another thread. Probably fits better here:

How does a team recruit a quality qb in ‘24 25’or 26’? How does a team keep a quality 22’ qb? This is going to take some massive coaching and not just with the qb position. If Nico gets the nod in 24’ who takes over if he (god forbid) is injured? The transfer portal and the NIL hitting almost simultaneously is not going to be good for the sport. I’m excited we landed him but it seems cheap and fragile
Well l knew sooner or later, that some on here would find a “negative “ viewpoint on possibly signing a top 3, game changer QB.
And here’s the thread!

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
