Landing an excellent top notch coach.

Peterson: 3 years 31-3, 1 undefeated season, good chance at 2. Bear Bryant coach of the year in 2006. 1 BCS bowl victory.

Meyer: 2 years 22-2 1 undefeated season Coach of the year 2004 1 BCS bowl victory.

Both put our recent records the shame. both are the same age. there really arent that many diffrences.

I hope I'm wrong but just got this sick feeling that this is about to be another Nebraska scenario. Looks like Tennessee may wind up losing a lot of their 2009 recruits plus being unable to attract any coach from their "A" list. If UT has to choose a coach from a 2nd tier list then this program is in for tough times for years to come and may never get back to an elite status.

when he got the florida job? He was in big demand--sort of the "it" coach among comers at smaller schools--but he was also a risk, if you ask me. I'll be interested to see how he does without tebow.

One was rebuilding a team. One was leading a team that went 11-1 the year before. Huge difference.

its like looking at the diffrences between apples and oranges. He is a great young coach with a very high sucess rate. Why not go after a guy like that compared to a guy like Kiffen, Brian Kelly, or other names like that.

Because he could end up like Hawkins or Petrino. I don't know if he would be a bad coach, but I don't like the idea of hiring someone based on three years of success at an inferior level.

I can't remember a time when there were as many good coaches available. I just hope we hire the right one. I've been a Vol fan all of my 54 yrs and this is the most important hire in that time.Maybe we'll get lucky and find that perfect fit sure hope so

I just hope that we return to all defensive facets being fixed. I want solid tackling and good bump and run. Disguised Blitzes and of course great run stuffers. For the 14 years I have been watching the Vols, I was a fan of the big play (every once in a while) but we always had the consistent stout defense and solid run game...seems like LSU adopted that and pulled through with 2 National Championships and I think we can get back to level as well.

It worked well for Fla. I understand that UT is not Bosie St and the mountian west and sec are on diffrent planets, but great coachs start out small. We have already steped out on a limb by fireing a coaxh with a .750 winning %, why not take another step out. If could fail and we could be in the same boat in 3 years, or we could be on our way back to national prominace, but however we get there, its not going to happen overnight.

all im saying is he has sustained a great team and recruited very well in IDAHO! what could he do with a team that gets players with really even having to recruit them. They have the blue turf, we have the checker board endzones. He may not be the 2nd coming of Meyer or Bear bryant but i mean could it get alot worse than 3-6 with a young somewhat proven energetic coach?
