Thanks for the info. Well, I think Latrell is an excellent recruiter, so we'll see.

THE SCRUGGS REPORT
NAME: Lamar Scruggs
SCHOOL: Fletcher
CITY: Neptune Beach
POSITION: WR
HEIGHT: 6-3
WEIGHT: 210
40 TIME: 4.52 (Reported)
HEAD COACH: Joe Reynolds

SCOUTING SCRUGGS: The first thing you notice when watching this young man play is the way he creates separation. That is something that even the quickest football players have trouble doing sometimes. Remember, it's all about football! He has the size, tremendous hands and athletic ability to create mismatches in the secondary.

College coaches love the way a big receiver can use his body and skill level to make plays. This is easily one of the top receivers we saw last year as a junior, and with the way he has grown and matured, this is a football talent that will only get better. He has to be considered as one of the best in Florida.

When you watch and evaluate football talent, there are many things to take into consideration. One of those is the competition level. That is something that many people often overlook. Watching Lamar three times over the past year, he has proven that no matter who it is that he is lined up against, he gets the job done. His quick burst of speed off the line, surprising strength and knack of going up and getting the ball in traffic are qualities that nobody can ignore.

Lamar Scruggs is going to continue getting better, and no matter where he ends up in the future, make no mistake that this is going to be a very special football player for years to come.

SCRUGGS SPOTLIGHT: Caught 23 balls for 567 yards and 7 touchdowns last season for the Senators. He is also one of the top track performers in the Jacksonville area.

WHAT THE COLLEGE RECRUITERS ARE SAYING: "Last year when Fletcher played a very good Niceville team, I had the chance to watch Lamar. By the end of the game, there wasn't a better football player on the field. He has the chance to be very special."

"Usually they have those small receivers to run those underneath routes," Scruggs said of Florida, "but that doesn't bother me a lot."

With the door cracked open, the Vols have stepped right in, with receivers coach Latrell Scott leading the way.

"I like Tennessee a lot," said Scruggs, who has more than 25 scholarship offers. "I could fit in good with their offense. I'm definitely keeping them in mind."

Scruggs says that South Carolina is in his top two, and that the Gamecoacks along with LSU, Illinois, Tennessee, South Florida and West Virginia make up his final six. He has no timetable for making a choice.

Hopefully that mix-up is on the reporter. I'd have a hard time believing this kid is seriously considering UT if he thinks his best relationship in Knoxville is with Coach Smith.

"I haven't decided on visits yet. I do know I'll definitely be going to South Carolina. That's the only one I'm sure about right now. I'll have to decide on the others soon."
In addition to the Gamecocks, Scruggs says he holds serious interest in a half dozen other schools. "I'm seriously considering South Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, South Florida, Illinois, Clemson, and West Virginia right now. They've all offered. I really can't tell you a leader yet since I haven't taken any visits. I can tell you that I grew up a Gator fan though. I'm going to have to take my visits to see everyone before I decide on a school though."

Four programs to get official visits from Lamar Scruggs
Wide receiver Lamar Scruggs, who sits just outside the ESPNU 150, told affiliate Web site TheBigSpur.com, "South Carolina, South Florida, Tennessee and Illinois. That's my top four. Florida, LSU or Clemson will get the fifth visit."

Additionally, Scruggs likes the playing time opportunity and style of play that the Gamecocks offer, "They say that I have a chance to play very early and possibly start if I come in and work hard. They run a good pro style offense and that is the offense that I want to play in. I am more of a possession wide receiver and I like to take it across the middle and take some hits as well."

Scruggs has also developed a good relationship with recruiter Steve Spurrier Jr., "We talk about all aspects of life. He asks me about my girlfriend and things like that."

He asks him about his girlfriend! Dang...Why didn't we think of that?

WR Lamar Scruggs (6-4 212) of Jacksonville, FL plans to schedule his official visits next week with USC, Florida, Tennessee, Illinois and South Florida. Scruggs attended one USC game during the season and talks weekly with recruiter Steve Spurrier Jr. Their last conversation was Monday night.

"He was just saying how I've got a big chance to start as a freshman," Scruggs said. "I'm going to take my visits and see how the atmosphere is (at the schools). All the schools are even. I'm hearing a lot from the Gators. I grew up a Gator fan and it would be pretty hard to tell them know. But, I'll do what's best for me and see if I fit in their (a school's) offense. I see myself in a pro style offense. The Gators run that spread. I fit in better with USC's offense. They run the same type offense we run. It's like a pro style offense."

Scruggs finished this season with about 800 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. He narrowed his list to five from nearly 60 offers.

I see it coming down to South Carolina and us. If he want's to run a pro-style offense that is.
