According to Doug Matthews radio show yesterday, Rob Lewis said Lamaison reminds him of Rick Clausen.

I will be shocked if Nick ever plays meaningful snaps based on the two scrimmages I saw.

I thought Rick Clausen was a smart guy and a good game manager. He never set the world on fire, but I would consider him a good backup QB.

I don't think that the new staff will ever waste a few years playing a Rick Clausen type guy; BJ Coleman knew this, and that's why he left.

Would be great if he were, but I think he's more like the next in a long line of JuCo QBs who transferred to a bigger conference and within that timespan realized he should make sure to get his degree.

When I think of Rick Clausen I think tough competitor, good game manager, terrible arm. Everything I've heard about Lamaison is he's got a live arm, possible best of the current group, have no idea about game management, intelligence, etc.

If he had all of Rick's intangable with a much better arm, I'd say he might have a chance to be a pretty good QB.

What he doesn't bring is a controversy of trying to please the Clausin family in hopes of getting Jimmy. Lamaison seems to be baggage free.

I'm pretty sure the Clausen comparison has a lot to do with lack of arm strength.

Again it's only based on watching him warm up and a few passes in scrimmages but he doesn't have a strong arm at this point.

I think he'll prove useful at some point, but I agree that he's not a starter ideally.

We're much better off with him than with no one. And I do think he will give Stephens all he wants in competition for the starting job this Spring.

So UT signed him for why? A warm body?

So they can run spring practice next year. There were serious doubts that Rozier would stick around (which he didn't) and you can't run spring practice with only 1 QB. BJ leaving made signing someone a necessity...Nick may be able to contribute down the road, but the number 1 reason he was signed wasn't to immediately compete, IMO.

Its comments like this that totally baffle me. Do you seriously think you have seen the "best" of him (or any player for that matter), considering he has been in the program, taking snaps, learning and competing, for what amounts to a little over ONE MONTH?! I dont think he will be a starter for us either, but jeez, let the kid learn the cadence at least before we judge him off of 2 scrimmages.

He definitely doesn't have that strong of an arm - certainly not stronger than Crompton or Stephens - you could tell the moment you watched his videos.
