Lady Vol Non-Conference schedule 2024-25

The schedule is weaker, but it makes sense. Let the ladies build some confidence. CKC has mentioned multiple times November isn’t her best month as a coach, so again - this makes sense.

My only critique of the schedule is I wish we could’ve replaced Colorado with a quality opponent. Maybe a Gonzaga, FGCU Creighton, Troy, etc.

Excited for the season!

Perfect. Very appropriate and realistic schedule. Just challenging enough. Of course we don't know the West Palm opponents. Good on whoever put this together, another win for the new staff.

The only thing I hate with the heat of a thousand suns is UConn in themiddle of our toughest stretch of the SEC schedule. I don't want to play them yet at all, much less when we're tired, beat up and pushing toward the tourney. Hate, hate, hate.

Colorado wasn’t going to be a quality opponent this season. They lost everything from the last few years and are a complete rebuild. They will be a sub .500 team.

Playing a good mid-major like Memphis who is likely to do well in their conference is actually smarter.

I like that we play alot of TN teams, Middle, Memphis, UT Martin and nearby and familars like Western Car and Liberty.

Didn't Kellie once coach at Western Car? That might have been in the works for a while.

We've started behind the eight ball the last two years bc of over scheduling. Glad that painful lesson got learned.

Agreed! I was hoping for a P5 school as a replacement - but Memphis probably has just a good (if not a better chance) of making the NCAA tourney than CU. They have TN and Louisville in their non-con, which will prepare them to compete for their conference championship.

A smart move to remove them from the schedule!

It's not Tennessee's traditional gauntlet of tough opponents, but I think most will agree this is the appropriate non-con schedule for this particular season, particularly at the front end. I'm happy with it!
Yep. Getting in an exhibition then two warm ups before MTSU Is a good thing.

Wonder if we hired Kim Mulkey as a consultant to help put this schedule together. This schedule looks like one of hers.
Our non-conference schedule by 2023-24 NET rankings (without West Palm Beach Classic opponents, which last year included the #18, #49, #55, #75, #109, #117, #158, #229, #258, and #280 teams):
#2 UConn
#5 Iowa
#39 MTSU
#43 Florida State
#128 Memphis
#134 Liberty
#219 UT Martin
#259 Samford
#310 UNC-Central
#329 Winthrop
#350 Western Carolina

LSU's schedule last year by 2023-24 NET rankings:
#16 Colorado
#19 Virginia Tech
#61 Virginia
#113 Kent State
#172 Louisiana
#177 Southeastern Louisiana
#201 Niagara
#241 Jacksonville
#263 Coppin State
#276 Northwestern State
#340 Texas Southern
#346 Queens
#347 Mississippi Valley State
#352 McNeese

Obviously, some teams will be up/down compared to last year (e.g., Iowa's probably not a top 5 team this year), but by comparison:
- Top 10 games: Tennessee 2, LSU 0
- Top 25 games: 2 each
- Top 50 games: Tennessee 4, LSU 0
- Top 100 games: Tennessee 4, LSU 3
- Top 150 games: Tennessee 6, LSU 4
- Sub-200 games: Tennessee 5, LSU 8
- Sub-300 games: Tennessee 3, LSU 4

Again, this doesn't include our West Palm Beach Classic opponents, which based on last year's match-ups, would probably give us 1-2 more top 100 or top 150 opponents. While I don't see us having anywhere near the NET #12 non-con SOS again this year, I don't think it will be nearly as bad as LSU's NET #185 non-con SOS.

This schedule is not a bad start when it comes to resetting the program, a less challenging schedule to get our feet underneath us, gain confidence and momentum for the season. I do perfer a tougher schedule in order to prepare for tournament play, but we have to be patient. Lets take our time and build our success one game at a time.

Right. Let’s lose 8 games right off the bat so our record gets us a low seed in the tournament and we have to play more and more difficult teams early to reach even the E8.
