I know there are a few people who have mentioned a slow start to DD recruiting here. Was wondering if anyone knew the timeline for his recruits giving their verbals when he was at La Tech. Did he start slow there also?

Yeah, yeah I know it was La Tech but it might show his method and if it is tracked this year and compared to his years at la Tech it might let us know how he operates in the future ... since, lets be honest, we're not going to hear much from him.

It takes awhile to build relationships. He's only been our HC a few months. Give it time...

I'm giving the man 3 years. But there are alot of doom and gloomers here and honestly I would just like to know if there might be a method to how he recruits so that it might calm some of the oh my god did the sky just get closer people down.

You really care about making doom and gloomers feel better? Wow. Nothing will make them stop hating man, NOTHING. It's what they do. Let them hate and you and I will focus on the positives. Deal?

Time will tell. It is still early. Some players will want to see the style of O and D he will run before they give their verbal.

I heard the only players that signed there were ones that ended up playing in the WAC.

I think comparing UT recruiting to LA Tech recruiting is like comparing flank steak (lol @ an earlier thread) to filet minion. Our facilities, tradition, and budget are way out of LA Tech's league.

Derrick Dooley, and company, proved they could recruit short-handed towards the end of the last recruiting year... Let's wait until the season begins before we start worrying about a lack of commitments. I think Tennessee will come away with a third straight top 10 recruiting class... I just hope it is enough to compete with Florida and Alabama's annual top three recruiting classes.

I would rather have a few in the bag just like the rest of us but Signing Day is 10 MONTHS AWAY (300 DAYS approx). Panic needs to be tempered since he already has experience (as well as Coach Thompson and Cheney) at SEC RECRUITING there is no reason to think he is in over his head. Seems to me like most recruits could be taking a wait and see approach as has been mentioned.

I believe I read somewhere that CDD & company had 50 high school kids that we're recruiting at the O & W game.

I don't think they're slacking at all.

I also love the great system to recruiting that CDD put in place where a offer is not made until 4 coaches have reviewed all film and then all 4 coaches sit down and talk everything they all saw through thoroughly.

I think that's alot better recruiting system than just having 1 or 2 coached make the decisions on what kids to make offers to.

GO BIG ORANGE !!!

I'm no "doom and gloomer" but I don't think we get a top 10 class this year. **Not b/c I think Dooley or his staff isn't capable** but bc I think we sign a class that's heavily built with OL & DL which are harder to evaluate and, at times, graded by scouting sites inaccurately.

Lance Thompson, especially, has shown that he's not caught up with star ratings or numbers--if he feels like a kid can play, he'll offer and sign them.

I think CDD, CJC, & CJW are similar in that regard. While they'll [heavily] pursue the highly touted players everybody knows about, I get the feeling that they really like to find those diamonds in the rough that may not have played at a 5A or 6A school but have shown the same ability as the more heavily recruited players.---and I think offensive and defensive linemen fit into that category more often than any other position.

I think we'll continue to recruit very well, and I certainly think CDD will get top-5/10 classes more often than not, but I just get the feeling that we'll only get a top 15-20 class this year--but also have a class that fills our positions of need.

It took Kiffin a while to get some looks. It didn't take Dooley long to get Rogers and Neal. Give it time, DD knows what he's doing

Lets not forget that he was the recruiting director at LSU when they landed back to back top 3 classes. This guy knows what he is doing. If you notice a change from this year and when Kiffin was hear. Kiffin will lie and backstab players that have been here out of playing time to get recruits. Dooley takes his time getting to know players and lets them know wht he expects.

Well put, and I didnt put much thought into the heavy OL/DL class... that being said, I would be more than happy with a top 15 class this year.
