He was #1 on my list, bro. Now we're gonna have to settle for Gruden.
I see this as the chain of events.
Last year: Dooley threatens to quit, Hart accepts under condition he find his own replacement
Early this year: Dooley realizing the season was taking a bad turn, approached Sonny Dykes (via LaTech connection)
Midseason: LaTech is ranked, Dooley convinces Dykes to coach UT in 2013
The next weekend: Thrasher shows up outside Dykes' window on a Tuesday night
That weekend: LaTech barely loses to TA&M, Dykes appears distracted the whole game
This past Tuesday: Dykes receives and email with a photo of Thrasher outside his house
This past Wednesday: Dykes decides to coach California (roughly 2,400 miles away from Thrash).
Friday: UT announces the hiring of Jon Gruden for half the price originally offered
Jan 7, 2013: The University of Tennessee Volungrudes (part of the deal) defeat La Tech in the BCS National Championship Game.
Sound about right?
