Yep - that Butch was a recruiting machine. Good grief, just now getting an offer?

I could see us getting him . He is wide open to schools .

It's a little late in the game, but he has offers from Alabama and UGA so he might be familiar with our coaches.

Fingers crossed but not getting my hopes up.

You guys taking constant shots at Butch are getting old. Butch probably knew he was going to Bama or Georgia so he didn't waste the time on him. Now that we have Pruitt, this kid is more a possibility. Butch certainly had his faults but working hard at recruiting wasn't one of them.

Definitely disappointed that Butch wouldn't have offered a guy like this, but a little surprised this wasn't a guy that we offered sooner under CJP. I know Thomas was only here for a week but I'm sure it's a guy he's Very familiar with.

You mean like the guys from Clemson and UGA who didn't waste their time with Mays because he was the child of a former UT player, grew up in Knoxville and had previously been committed to UT. Butch got 4+ million dollars a year. It was his F'ing job to waste his time and make sure no stone was left unturned.

Lord I had to turn the AC down in my house after the heat from that response. Lol

It was his job to waste his time? LOL! Some of you guys are wound just a little too tightly on this subject.

My problem with this statement is you're basically saying it's okay to quit before you even try. Defeatist attitude. You offer on the off chance he decides to look around, so you at least have a foot in the door.

The point was, until these kids sign their LOI, time is never wasted trying to recruit blue chip talent to your program.

There has to be a list of priorities with recruits. A top 50 guy from LA wasn't in Butch recruiting footprint. Can't waste time on guys that aren't realistic so it is hard For me to blame Butch here.

If you flip him, it isn't a waste of time. And how difficult is it just to extend an offer and gauge interest? Never know what putting your name out to a kid like this will do. Let it bounce around in his head, and we just might get a visit. Like Fulmer says, if we get a kid on campus.....

What constitutes a waste of time? Hounding him if he's obviously not interested is one thing. Offering a scholarship takes very little time.

Clemson took a 5 star tackle from out of Urbans backyard. Kirby took Mays from Knoxville and a 5 star offensive lineman from Brooklyn NY last year. Your point, is completely pathetic, but I'm not in the least bit surprised that you're the one who made it.

This attitude is part of our problem.

If you want to be a national brand you need to act like one. We have one helluva product to sell, so whoever our coach is had better sell it.

His classes were so overrated, wasn’t even funny. If it wasn’t for legacy players and vast quantities of three stars, they’d all be below the top 15. Horrible instate recruiter, as well.

Lol

We aren't Clemson or Georgia right now

That's absolutely not true. And even if it were, it doesn't absolve Butch of ANYTHING. Dozens of decommits occur every year. That's why it's called the silly season. And it's why you build relationships with elite talent...even if if seems like a waste of time so you can take advantage when it does.
