'22 LA RB Dylan Sampson (Tennessee signee)

Underrated posts are underrated - spot on Greg and allvol. That's the hard part of reading and posting on here. Posters think they know something by the number of stars from recruiting services who provide a marginally valuable product at best. At worst they are shills and posers.

Heup is demonstrating to recruits on the field in the SEC that he and his staff can develop players at a high level to showcase their talents and win. That will continue all season. So if he taps your shoulder as a player, you know he means business and you are a fit. That makes it much easier over time to recruit the type players who fit best and will succeed.

This kid is a grand slam in this system. But Heup and staff knew that long ago.
Yeah, Sampson fits this system perfectly. Barring injuries he will be a star prior to graduating.

Tiyon Evans, Jabari Small, Jaylen Wright, Le'Neth Whitehead will be back. Why add 2 more RBs when top 4 RBs are coming back what should be a 4 star coming in? Should focus our attention to more pressing needs

Health, ability to learn the playbook and skill level are reasons to consider additional RB's and that will probably happen thru the portal or via recruiting.

JS will possibly need shoulder repair procedure.

Jaylen isn't seeing the field that much so what's up with that?

LW is a stop gap measure at this point.

Tiyon has to stay healthy.

There are needs across the board. AT least (1) more RB is needed besides Sampson.

Don't even bring up DBeckwith at this point

Always trust a coach over a recruiting analyst. Always going to trust the person with something to lose. Recruiting analysts get some wrong, nothing happens. If a coach starts to get some wrong, at least a lot of pressure will be put on him to have instant success on the hot seat. Also, need to get guys that actually fit the systems.

Stars matter. Yes, recruiting services get some wrong, but they are right more often than not. Take the top teams year in and year out. What do they have in common? Usually they are the tops in recruiting each year.

LW hasn't played in two seasons and didn't participate in spring because he's been recovering from injury. I think he'll be a pleasant surprise once he knocks the rust off.
Not sure what he's been doing these past 2 years. But he's a much better looking athlete than when he signed. He looks to be a legit power option at RB.

He's always been a top notch athlete. 40" vert, 4.5 forty at 230lbs and that was the summer before his senior year.

There are also exceptions. Arkansas has averaged recruiting classes in the 30s. They just lost their 1st game to Alabama after being ranked 8th. They’ll probably finish ranked in the top 10 and win 10+ games in Pittman’s 2nd year. Kentucky’s recruiting rankings are even worse. But they’re undefeated and just beat Florida. Who do you think had higher ranked recruits in that game? Missouri won the East their first 2 seasons in the SEC with classes ranked from the 30s to 50s. Bill Snyder built a powerhouse at KState with no top 25 classes. Hell, even Oklahoma does what they do with classes ranked top 15-20, but rarely top 5. And Clemson won national titles with top 15, but not top 5 classes. Now they’re unranked with top 5 classes.

It’s not an exact science.

Of course they matter, but absence of proof isn't proof of absence, and a lower rank may mean less exposure and evaluation than lower talent. UCF put more guys in the NFL than UT did. If you have the option of taking all 4 and 5 star kids, that's what you do. If you can't, you become better at determining which 3 stars are likely to develop into better players.

They also get to sit those 5 stars for 2-3 years. Recruiting rankings are supposed to be based off raw talent and the top teams have the time to develop that talent. But then you always have the Iowas that are consistently 8-4 to 10-2 every year with all 3 stars

Agree. Wright has potential, but he needs to learn to stick a foot in the ground and get vertical. Dancing too much.
Wright has that amazing speed, so he's looking to hit that home run every play. It's a lesson that's difficult to learn for a lot of young backs who are used to outrunning everybody. Hopefully, he'll learn to take what's there and the big plays will come.

Iowa isn't in the SEC. Kentucky is the closest thing we have to Iowa. Stoops has built a solid program, but he's been afforded the time to do so. They don't have championship expectations for their football program. Neither does Iowa. Consistent 8-4 to 10-2 will get you fired here unless you win the east every couple of years. Which still might get you fired.

I think a consistent 9-3 will keep you here

It should, but our fan base is unrealistic. Since '98 the overall fan base expects us to compete for championships every year. The reality is that the only states with SEC schools that we consistently have better in state talent than is Kentucky, Arkansas, Missouri, South Carolina, and MAYBE Mississippi. Meaning our big 3 rivals always have better home grown talent to choose from. Then Texas and Louisiana far exceed our talent pool as well.

His Pass blocking as well has regulated him behind Whitehead who as well should be more Physical in picking up LBs.

The one thing I love about Sampson is how skinny he gets in the hole and ability to go low then explode out. These traits in RB are hard to learn because its not natural to most but to him it is Natural. In CHRIST Alone.
