Kongbo DE or LB?

Does not have the football IQ to be great at either......

Until proven otherwise, Kongbo will play guard, tackle and end. Has the talent to make a play when he is in the right place, but often ends up running the wrong way. If the light ever comes on in his head, he could be special in the NFL. But I am thinking he will end up making a name for himself in the WWE. He has more time to prove his worth there.

I would believe that the staff is weight training him to be in a position that is needed or best suited for him. Not sure which, but you can bet they aren't leaving it to chance.

I agree. I don't think Chance Hall will have any say in it either.

I hope you’re right, but I’m having a hard time seeing it. I watched him a lot last year. I seldom saw any semblance of explosiveness or disengagement skills in pass rush or run support. He lost contain frequently. He didn’t appear to be quick or strong enough to do anything effective on the edge, so the speculation he will be an effective 3-4 linebacker in space is baffling to me. There is nothing I would love more than for coaches to find a position he could excel at.

This pretty much sums it up but I'm like you...hopeful for him. Maybe it was the overall under development of many of the players in the previous system.

I was surprised when I saw this, because I thought he was DL. I assume they’ve told him they would play him like Pruitt did Deshawn Hand and told Mincey the same thing when recruiting him.

Kongbo is an enigma. He seems to have everything you’d need to be a pass rush DE but underwhelms. I’m hoping it’s a technique issue, he seems to lack aggression. Me, I’d play him at a strong side DE and teach him hard on containment and fundamental tackling. I suspect he lacks the quickness to effectively rush the passer, as well as the aggression required to defeat a tackle and/or a back to get to him. That said I hope I’m dead wrong and he blooms into the next NFL first round draft pick pass rusher.

These players are hits & misses. Take Blaire, the O.T. that came in. He hardly saw playing time. He was horrible.
With Kongbo, everyone thought he would be the next Leonard Little but he hasn't done so yet.
Some thought that J.G. would be an All-American during his freshman year, but he hasn't lived up to that hype yet.
Hit & Misses....

I don't ever see him being a LB. Too slow. And honestly I haven't seen him do anything that makes me think he will be a difference maker as a DL. As others have said, lack of explosiveness and overall foot speed. He looks the part but on the field he just looks lead footed compared to others. I hope I'm wrong and he develops as a senior. That being said he probably plays a lot just because we lack playmakers. The move to the 3-4 helps him get on the field more IMO.

It's sparked my interest how thin Kongbo looked on the new polar challenge and hype videos. Could he be trimming down to play at linebacker? He looks too light to be an effective DE? Has anyone seen him out and and about too get a good look at his real size and weight?

Unfortunately to this point he seems to be another over rated recruit. I can remember the excitement on here when he committed. Never mind he had very little football experience. Hopefully he will at least be serviceable.

He looks like Hercules and plays like Pee Wee Herman. I had high hopes for Kongbo hopefully Pruitt can get something out of him.

Neither. Would be best suited for interior d-lineman. He’s a run-stuffer type guy, occupy o-linemen, stand your ground and free up the LB’s. Plus, he’d probably do a nice job pressuring the QB with an occasional bull rush up the middle.

Neither. Listed at 264, he is too small for a 3-4 DE. They are more like tackles at 290. Check the rosters of Alabama etc. To slow to stand. Unless he gets way bigger, he will most likely sit. But with no other players Jones left over there, he will have to do.

His frame could easily get to 280, but looks like he wants to go the other way.
