Uh, shouldn't they be looking for a new head coach & staff instead of signing players?
At the end of regular season, teams sign guys like Kongbo to futures contract so they can be on the 90 man roster heading into training camp. The futures contracts are for the veteran's minimum with little to no guaranteed money (i.e., you don't get the $$$$ unless you make the 53 man roster). If you wait til you hire a coach or GM to sign futures deals, the talent level will be real low. Even if Kongbo doesn't make a 53 man roster, he may make a practice squad with the chance of a later call up based on how he plays in the preseason.

Blue Bombers are a Canadian team. He hasn't been sitting around and may have cleaned up a few deficits.

My favorite Kongbo story

Jonathan Kongbo is a highly recruited, five star defensive end from Canada (presently at Arizona Western CC) whom the Rebs wanted desperately, particularly after they found out that five star Jeffery Simmons had signed with State.

The Rebs, and particularly RebelGrove247, lost it when they found out later in the afternoon that Kongbo had signed with Tennessee. If the post below accurately describes Hugh Freeze's efforts to sign Kongbo, then we can see the lengths to which the Rebs will go to sign five star talent. Not only that but the Reb poster has the audacity to question the faith of Kongbo's parents because their son signed with UT instead of Ole Miss.

Most of you know that CHF is "Coach Hugh Freeze." Most of you also know that the "Jones" referred to in the post is Coach Butch Jones, head coach at UT. What you almost certainly do not know is that Djembe
is a term referring to African drums: Djembe Drums Landing Page

According to the Reb poster Hugh Freeze flew to Canada to visit Kongbo's parents and took with him on the airplane African prayer candles and Djembe. With those items Freeze spent more than an hour praying with Kongbo's parents according to the Reb poster.

Tennessee's legendary broadcaster John Ward @RoughSack has had a lot of fun with this on hisTwitter page. https://twitter.com/RoughSack

Enjoy this post by a typical Ole Miss fan who apparently thinks this is an acceptable recruiting tactic by his head football coach.
