KNS reporting Cutcliffe expected to accept Duke job

I think Chavis turned down a HC job at Western Carolina a few years ago. I believe that is the school considering hiring Randy Sanders now.

I don't think Fulmer will bring in a better QB coach then Cutcliffe was.

Most of his other hires, weren't that impressive, i.e. Roper, Adkins, etc. The TE coach Fulmer hired, Luke, is the only one I was impressed with.
Switch Adkins and Luke and I agree with you. Adkins has done a very solid job here IMO.

Saints OC or Al Borges. Borges didn't have a good offense this year because his QB was bad.

Borges had four years to turn him into a good QB. It doesn't make me feel good that Brandon Cox's best year was his sophomore season.

Cox was Rick Clausen bad (almost) not much you can do with that. One of his QB's is the starting QB for the redskins.

Chief had some pretty good defense's in the past....2005 as an example....I agree he had a horrid year this year, but in his defense he has coached some good ones to....

I've said this a lot but in 2005 when you have 9 out of 11 starters get selected in the nfl draft and have a 2nd round pick like Turk playing backup end my dog as seen on the left could field a good defense. And he is more interested in eating ornaments off the christmas tree than whether or not we give up another first down on third and a river.

[/B]

Don't bet on it. I didn't think he'd still be around after 2005.

Why Not? If he is still here in 6 years....This board will be on fire...I hope he is here in 6 years that means we will have had something good happen.... We (Vol Fans) will not allow to happen what has happened the last 5 years with this program...Something is going to happen Good or Bad but we will not accept 3 more years of mediocracy without a change.

If you think X is good, wait till you see...

David Cutcliffe has been hired as the head football coach at Duke, according to University of Tennessee officials. Cutcliffe, who has been the Tennessee offensive coordinator for the last two years, had said earlier Friday morning that he had not been offered the Duke job.

Cutcliffe was the head coach at Ole Miss before returning to Knoxville for his second stint as the Vols’ offensive coordinator.

Duke denies report it has offered job to Tennessee's Cutcliffe

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Duke officials denied reports Friday the school has reached an agreement with Tennessee offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe to take over as football coach.

But the Blue Devils are close to making a decision about a replacement for the fired Ted Roof, and Cutcliffe -- the former Mississippi coach -- appeared to be the leading candidate. The 53-year-old Cutcliffe said earlier in the day he had interviewed for the position, but denied receiving an offer.

"We all kind of have a desire to run a program -- that's kind of why I got into it," Cutcliffe said at Tennessee's media day in advance of the Volunteers' Outback Bowl appearance. "That really hasn't changed. I'm still fairly young ... but I just feel like there's a lot left out there to be done."

Duke athletic director Joe Alleva has said he wants to hire an experienced head coach with an offense-minded reputation. Cutcliffe -- who led Ole Miss to four bowl games and groomed Peyton Manning and Eli Manning into NFL quarterbacks -- would fit that profile.

Cutcliffe was 44-29 in six seasons with the Rebels before he was fired in 2004. Duke fired Roof shortly after a 1-11 finish and a 6-45 overall mark in four-plus seasons.

Duke athletic department spokesman Art Chase confirmed shortly before 5 p.m. that Duke hasn't yet offered the job to Cutcliffe, or any other candidate. But Alleva told WRAL-TV of Raleigh the search committee would meet again Friday evening.

"My hope, my hope, is we have an offer in place tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday we have a coach," Alleva said.

I disagree. I think he is here for the duration barring a losing season.

All these rumors are really pissing me off.

I applied online for the Duke job...and, if they hire Cut, that means I'm probably not going to get an interview. And I already informed my current employer that I might need a day off next week to drive to Durham....this really ticks me off...

David Cutcliffe, the former Mississippi coach who spent the last two seasons as Tennessee's offensive coordinator, was hired by Duke on Friday, The Associated Press has learned.
Cutcliffe will be introduced as Duke's head coach during a news conference Saturday, a person familiar with the decision said on condition of anonymity because the announcement hadn't yet been made.
At Duke, he'll have the difficult task of building the Blue Devils into winners after the team won just 22 games during the past 13 seasons.
The decision to hire Cutcliffe apparently was reached during an evening meeting of Duke's search committee. The 53-year-old coach said earlier in the day he had interviewed for the position, but denied receiving an offer.
Earlier Friday night, Duke athletic director Joe Alleva declined to say whether anyone had been offered the job, but as he left his office at Cameron Indoor Stadium at about 7:30 p.m. he expressed confidence that a hire was coming soon.
"By the end of the weekend, we'll be done," Alleva said.
One of the first Tennessee players Cutcliffe groomed into an NFL quarterback, Heath Shuler, praised the hiring of his former position coach because of his skills as a tactician. Shuler, now a Congressman representing western North Carolina, blossomed under Cutcliffe and was picked third overall by the Washington Redskins in 1994.
"He always talked to me about having a plan, and I took it in reference to football for so long _ have a plan if the defense does this _ but the real message he was sending to me was, have a plan for life," Shuler said. "There's no doubt that David Cutcliffe has a plan when it comes to being the head coach at Duke."
