Knoxville to Savannah (Ga) Interstate?

there's nothing wrong with the two interstate routes that already exist, why is there a need, or perceived need, for a third?

Well, yeah. Who needs those silly mountains in the way. Knock 'em down. As to the need? Really? Somebody's gonna make a butt load of money I would guess.

Not that I travel up on the top end of Atlanta often, but we need a connector to 75 to 85 without having to go all the way to Atlanta. It would relieve alot of traffic and be more benifical.

I travel up that way all the time and you are 100% right. There needs to be an interstate from Cartersville to Canton and then running to the south of Lake Lanier and connecting to I-85. If you don't believe it . . . go cruise the top end of I-285. It used to be that you avoided it during rush hour, but now it's packed at all hours and it's just a matter of when somebody runs into somebody else and clogs everything up.

When they take 140 to 321 in Blount Co. and add the Beltway connecting 40 to north 75 in Knoxville we can then talk about interstates from Knoxville to Savannah.

Interesting. I assume this would make the drive from Knoxville to Hilton Head shorter.

Just make 441 into a freeway and call it Football Alley....you have The U, UF, UGA, and UT along the route. They could even run it up through to UK or VT.

Not sure if you've ever been in NorthEast GA, but it's not exactly flat. An interstate route from Knoxville to Savannah is going to face similar obstacles as I40 between Knoxville and Asheville.

Not sure it would be any quicker than I-40 to I-26 to I-95 & anything close to Atlanta would be a traffic nightmare. As is it's probably a 6.5 hr trip.

THIS!!!!

Dalton to Greenville along US Highway 76 would be a good start.

Knockdown a few hills or build a bunch of tunnels going through Chattahoochee forest or whatever that is on the GA/SC state line.

Done the drive to savannah, well statesboro, many of times. Atlanta was always the determining factor, made it in 3 and a half hours when my nephew was born, well from statesboro to chatt, however due to a wreck in atl it took 9 hrs once

Not sure they could pull that off. The terrain gets tough east of Blairsville.
You are right... That is why I said tunnels/ knockdown mountains... whatever it takes.

It would be expensive and the environmentalists would probably have a fit like they are doing with I-840 loop around Nashville.

I give it a slim to none chance of ever happening, but it would be nice.

You learn real fast down here that in the state of Georgia, if an idea doesn't involve metro Atlanta, it might as well not exist.

I would like to see something that would tie the Chattanooga area to Greenville or maybe even Clinton SC......it would give the 'noogies a straight shot to the low country and the Georgia folks another route to heaven.

I've seen Greenville mentioned a couple times in here and I will be driving from there to Johnson City in a few months. How is that drive?

Me thinks some politicians are going to be buying up land soon.........

Ohio is notorious for this......... politicians made hundreds of millions from I-75 buying up land....

Somehow they will tie this to Ft. Stewart/Hunter and find a way to get it done.

Well the whole reason for i-16 is bc a politician had no good way of getting from savannah to atlanta, so they used land that was still effed up from Sherman
