Just wondering what is being said about Fulmer, this team, and the other coaches after the UCLA game. I wont be up in Knoxville for a few more days so I wont be able to listen.

I wouldn't know, but I would be willing to guess that your avatar probably says it all.

A middle Tennessee station was talking today about how much football season contributes to the University. Pretty much that it runs on the money they make during football season. And that if Hamilton doesn't open his eyes, he might be losing some money pretty soon

now that Rome is gone, i'm pretty much exclusively on Sirius except for the first hour of SportsTalk, because that's when they do the news.

Incorrect. The rest of the athletic department depends on football, but not the university in general. The UTAD does fund some token academic-only scholarships, and there's no doubt that a successful football team generates merchandise sales, general goodwill, etc. that helps the university as a whole, but in almost all respects the athletic department operates as a completely separate financial entity from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. They don't even report to the chancellor, for example, but rather to the president's office. It's like a completely separate business, and most of what it does is in support of itself.

Good info, thanks

I should probably follow up by saying that there are people who think that the "general goodwill" generated by football is worth more than I do. I.e., some people make big donations to the general university because they're football fans. I don't doubt that that's the case, and you can argue over how much difference it makes, but in any event from a day-by-day, budgeting standpoint, the school and the AD are almost if not completely separate.

I think being viewed as a "football school" hurts with academic donations sometimes. All in all I would say the athletic side of UT is a net neutral to the general welfare of UT academically.

I listened to about 2 hours of radio today and it was about the same as it is on here. Callers asking questions about why our CBs were playing one man up, one man back. Why Crompton looked so unprepared. Why weren't we running. The hosts had the same answers this website has. They put it all on the coaching and didn't understand the second half lack of aggression.

I tuned into the Sports Animal 990 yesterday online, and it was rough.

Lots of comments on Clawson, and his debut

listening to john and jimmy is like listening to nazis state propoganda radio. those guys will defend the program and fulmer to the death and when you get them in a corner and they know you're right, they pause then grudgingly agree. Then some regular moron caller will talk about the dallas cowboys or the tennessee smokies. they're the worse talk show in tennessee.

It's long been said that the UTAD rewards loyalists in the Knoxville media with "inside information" and punishes the critics by limiting press credentials and other strong arm tactics. I don't know if there is any truth to that, or maybe it's something that every big school AD does?

I watched Jim Rome is Burning yesterday, and he had a guest on the show (can't remember who it is, I was out of the room when they started talking)... and when asked about the UCLA game he talked about UCLA and how great they played and how Neu and Chow are going to re-establish them in the PAC-10 and nationally for about 98% of his time on just that game. When he was asked about UT he said "They're a terrible football team". That's all he needed to say.

I would imagine that is nothing new among major ADs.

Same old, same old; Basilio and the callers to his show are calling for Fulmer's head, as usual, while the Sports Animal defends Fulmer/Hamilton.

Well, I don't see why not. This loss was obviously NOT Fulmer's fault. Don't you know he's infulmible, I mean infallible? It was a combination of Global Warming, Urban Meyer putting funny sauce in the pregame food, lack of magic dust (that dastardly fiend Saban stole it) and the almighty PENALTY MONSTER!

Not convinced are you?

He has WON a National Championship for UT. What have you done!? HUH?

I listened to the sports animal yesterday and today and as said it is all pretty much the same as we are seeing on here now...Today was a little different as there were a lot of callers saying that it is time to move on...There was one caller that really had a good point...He stated that knowing that this is a third string qb in an offense he had not been in before and only a spring to learn it, we did nothing in the second half to make him change the play or audible at all...We did nothing different from the "mustang" package to make him look at so he knew what was coming and what to expect...IMO a very good point but what do I know, I do not make 500 grand a year like our coaches do...Anyways, it is the same stuff we are reading here...Go Vols!

I listened to them yesterday and they were bashing the TN defense, they were not playing the homer routine at all.
