I think the last time I went out to "party" in Knoxville Reagan may have still been president. The Library was the hot spot if I recall. When I go to games now I usually stay in a hotel on the west side of town and go sit in line for two or three hours waiting for a table at outback with the other geezers.

:shades: Ah, sweet memories.

At least you remember it. If I could add up all the $$ spent there

OCI- Get there early and get the front booth or the one by the can.

RIP O'charleys- I spent many a summer afternoon on that patio.

Longbranch- learned to play foosball against the V-Roys there.

Arnold's (later Flamingo's, I don't know now) had some great live bands.

All time fav is Toddy's. Go get drunk and play horseshoes, GoldenTee or darts. Too many nights there.

No list is complete without a mention of the dearly departed Roman Room. George was by far the coolest bar proprietor in K-Town history.

You're making me cry.

Nice call on the "V-Roys," my all-time favorite Knoxville band. Do you still follow Scott Miller? Great stuff.

Let me add to the list: Making "The Lap," quarters at Quarters, Animal Hour at Hawkeye's. . . .

Or, here we go, what about the old Underground? Seeing it go was only second to the closing of the Library.

Haven't seen the recent stuff but I still play their old CD every now and again. Fav k-town band was Freeway. They were great until the drummer went to med school. Played @ Elec Ballroom alot.

The Lap- I think you had to be underage to drink there. Quarters was great, a friend from HS was the bartender! Hawkeye's could get downright evil after a while (I forgot about that one). The underground closed? Also loved going to the Boiler Room next door when it was BYOB. I tried to get my name on the wall @ Spicy's "Around the world" but never finished. Lucilles in the Old City was another fav.

What was the place next to Sam and Andy's? It was a game room where I spent a lot of time playing Killer Instinct and drinking watered down beer.

The Library was the only place I've ever seen that could draw several hundred people on a Monday night. Tall Paul rocks! Sadly, it's been almost ten years since it closed.

Animal hour was evil. Order a margarita, and you got a glass of tequila garnished with a lime.

Scott Miller is great. I never saw him with the V-Roys (I can't believe I never did with all the live shows I watched when I was at UT), but I've seen him with the Commonwealth a few times in Raleigh over the past couple of years. Good stuff.

I finished it after three years of going there (they kept raising the number of beers - it was up to 140 when I finished), but within three months of finishing they had a change in ownership, and they took the plaque down. :realmad: I've still got the t-shirt, though. Sadly, Spicy's went the way of the dodo a few years ago, too.

Man this is making me depressed. All the places w/ personality seem to be biting the dust. Is it all "chain-type" places now? I don't get back as much as I would like and haven't been to the strip in ages.

And Neander, :post-20645-1119625378: on the $700 t-shirt. :biggrin2:

Zarbo's!!!

I almost forgot about that place. You could get pitchers of imports for $6-7, and they never carded. I spent most of the summer of '94 there. I think it changed it's name to Sassy Ann's at some point, but I never went there much after the name change.

That's right!! Sassy Ann's and Zarbos. I couldn't remember the names, but that's where I went when I lived on Deery St. off of 3rd Avenue.

In fact, it was 1994 when I lived there.

What was the place called that had that animal hour on 17th?

It was a rickety old building with the long, narrow staircase and tiny upstairs. It was one block away from the strip.

Anyone remember?

Bingo. Spent many a night there, as well as everywhere else, the Library was great.

It's a shame the bars go in and out of business on the strip as fast as the students do. It's hard to make money at a bar in a college town (no that Knoxville is) without serving minors. Look at Athens and Auburn. The bars there close and reopen as something else as fast as the Harricks can create a final exam.

Scott's CD's with "The Commonwealth" are great. He is releasing a new one in 2 weeks that he actually rented an apartment in Fort Sanders to write with an old Knoxville-feel.

Yes, the Underground, sadly, changed names a couple of times before closing down and reopening as "Fiction," which shares a building with Blue Cats (depending on the night). Very square, hardly any seating, tiny bar, and no personality. Exact opposite of Knoxville's old signature eclectic spot. I always wanted one of those crazy tables from the Boiler Room.

Lucilles, too, is no more. However, somebody told me that Sassy Anne's was open again.

Good times, good times.

They would sell beer to a dog that was 3.
