I'm coming down from Pennsylvania for the UCLA game and was just wondering what places you all would recommend for me and my buddy to eat at. what are the town/campus staples? What place is it almost sacrilige to visit Knoxville w/o eating at? etc.

Any help would be great. TIA!

I always make sure to grab some BBQ and a 1/2 yard of beer at Calhoun's on the River! They have some great micro-brews.

Gus's Good Time Deli, right on campus, their cheeseburgers are amazing.

that's right....i miss my late night conversations with Gerald. Even after 5 years he still remembers my buddies face after he told him to never come back after trying to steal some cigarettes (not my buddy anymore).

It's not all that close to campus, but Chandler's Deli on Magnolia really hits the spot if you like soul food.

+100! I found out about this place during my junior year at UT and I wish I had known how great it was sooner. All types of southern and soul food, every out of towner I have taken there loves it too. Its on the left just past cherry street on magnolia (if u are coming from campus). Gus's is also a good choice if you just want to stay close to campus, but watchout for the drunk tax. Cheers

gus's cheese fries are unreal...or get a cajun rooster with egg at the shell station.

i had my first rooster the first week of school of my freshmen year. was on the way back to the dorms from the fort.....it was the start of an overpowering addiction.

if you went to ut and have never had a rooster then you don't drink.

i am pretty sure Sawyer's went out of business, Gutherie's is a new chicken strip place that is real good.

Another vote for Gus's...we ate there when we went to the O&W game this spring, and it was just as good as I remembered. Quite a bit more expensive than I remembered, though! But worth it, I think.
