I want to know how many of you would trade our current staff for Gruden? All of us wanted Gruden badly but now that you know who we got would you trade this staff for Gruden?

I still would have liked Cowher more, as long as we're talking impossibilities.

Even if Gruden was fired from Tampa Bay, he still would have never coached here.

So justin, what are your thoughts on the staff so far? How outlandish would it have been to say we would have Orgeron, Kiffin, and just barely miss out on Garner if I had told you a month ago?

I will admit that I was downing the Gruden Kool-Aid a little over a month ago, but I have definately joined the CLK bandwagon. The only issue that bothered me with CLK was his lack of experience. But, since the naming of Monte and Orgeron I have been as big a CLK fan and supporter as one can be....

Also, Justin, I haven't seen you post in awhile. What are the latest developments that we may not know about? Or is everything dead and just speculation at the current time?

So it must have bothered you even worse when UT hired Dickey,Battle and Fulmer, because LK's resume is better than all of those at the time they were hired by UT

I don't necessarily understand the reason to try to make me see that CLK had more experience than they did. Did I not say in my post that I am a complete CLK backer?

If I had said, "Screw Lane.....Fulmer is a god"....then I might understand it. But, as a loyal, life-long fan of the Vols, I just wouldn't want to try to start crap with another fan. Seems to me like two fans of the same team would be on the same side? Course, I am not all that intelligent; I got my education on The Hill.....

Kiffin plus the staff is better than any guy we went after i believe. It is just a dream staff

I was in the Gruden camp, and I'm happy where we are now. Obviously, Gruden > L Kiffin as a head coach... but I don't know if Gruden would have been able to pull the kind of staff that Lane is. All in all, on paper, I believe that we've hit a grand slam - its exceed my expectations, even without Garner.

On a side note, it will be interesting to see how Gruden does without Monte.

I was never big on Gruden coming here, no matter how impossible/possible it was. I didn't see him coming in and do what CLK is doing (putting together a monster staff). Not that I knew CLK was going to surround himself with this kind of staff, I thought his chances were better to do this than any of the other potential candidates.

I've been extremely busy and have kind of fallen out of the loop. Look for Bates from Denver to pop up.

Believe it or not, there are those who post here who resort to calling you a Fulmerite or Negavol when you don't believe the same thing they do. The ignore user and ignore thread buttons work wonders.

I was steadfastly in the Gruden camp, and have been told that we most certainly could have had him if we would have waited.

That being said, I am ecstatic at the hire of Lane Kiffin and the staff he has assembled....and do not believe that Gruden would have been able to put together such an all-star cast. I also believe in the possible longevity of this hire. I think he can be a Pete Carroll type of hire, that finds his niche in college football and builds something special.

To answer the question from the original post: no. Gruden is a good coach, but I don't know if Gruden could have put together a staff that's built for recruting like Kiffin has. He's definitely using the USC model of building a program, where you win a majority of your games for no other reason than your players are just way, way better than the other team's players (which actually used to be the way UT did it back in the 90's). I saw a stat that said that it's possible that USC could lose all 11 starters from their defense through either graduation or the NFL. That's crazy, but what's crazier is that they'll just replace those guys with a whole new crop of 5 star players and be alright.

I'd still probably take Gruden. Some of the big names on this staff are probably pretty limited in their time here - the head coach will always be here (unless he's fired or goes else where of course) so I'd take Gruden for that reason on being the better HC.

Thanks for the wonderful information. As sad as it is, it appears I may have to use this function....
