Kirk Herbstreit has been caught sticking his nose where it doesn't belong. Usually, ESPN personalities try to destroy good things for Tennessee. It seems now they have now shifted their attention toward UGA. Dylan Raiola was a five star QB from Buford, Georgia. He had originally committed Ohio State (Herbstreit's Alma Mater) then he flipped to UGA. Raiola was still being targeted by other programs, including Matt Rhule's Nebraska team. Herbstreit reached out to Raiola's father and told him his son needed to flip from UGA and go to Nebraska. I guess Herbie thought if he wasn't going to Ohio State, he better not go to another contender that could potentially face Ohio State. What a total Douche bag. Hey Georgia, it looks like its your turn now. I've absolutely had enough with the garbage that comes out of ESPN.

EDIT: Evidently folks aren't happy with this. ESPN is getting calls to discipline Ohio State boy -

I'm kind of wondering if Daddy Raiola is throwing Kirk under the bus, although I've not heard anything about Kirk denying it. My understanding is the flip was mostly Daddy and Dylan did not really want to, an understandable position. Which OL would one rather play behind, Nebraska's or UGA's if a top rated QB? Beck is a good QB, but his OL is one massive cheat code for him as well.

Unless he expressed it on the air, I don't see the problem. If he's known Daddy R, he has the right like anyone else to express his opinion.

Privately, he's just another friend of Daddy R's talking privately to him, unless he made some kind of "threat" if he didn't go to Nebraska.

I mean, he's a goober and I wouldn't give his opinion much weight but why shouldn't he be able to privately talk to people he knows about his feelings on where their kid should go?

This UGA fan agrees with your first sentence. It’s probably just daddy talking.

I don’t particularly like the notion of a national talking head steering kids in recruiting, but it doesn’t bother me. Players should play where they want to play and listen to who they want to listen to. Raiola pretty clearly wanted early playing time and UGA doesn’t promise that—especially with Beck returning.

The last like 2/3 of your post is incorrect conjecture. For starters, Nebraska literally plays tOSU next year. The rest is more of you just making assumptions based on very little given information

I understand your point of view; however, if Nebraska had Patrick Mahomes, I'd still bet on tOSU.

Once I read the actual transcript, it just sounded like Proud Parent name-dropping to me.

I’m an interview yesterday on Finebaum, Herbstreit said he merely gave his opinion on Matt Rhule when he was asked. Told Mr. Raiola that he liked Rhule and thought he was a good coach. He said at no time did he say “Don’t go to Georgia..” Sounded upset and very sincere about what he said. Somebody is either exaggerating what was said or flat out lying.

My first thought when reading the story was Raiola's dad asked his opinion sometime or somewhere. Probably not much here.
I would pick Charles Davis' brain if my kid was in the middle of recruiting and had an opportunity to bring it up.

I imagine a lot of guys who played, coached, analyze, etc get asked or are self-important enough to spontaneously offer a private opinion on a good fit for kids. I can't see McAfee holding his tongue about where a player should go for one second in a private conversation with some kid's parents.

Keep it off the air and I don't care where Herbie or any of those guys think Raiola should go.

There has always been an anti-southern bias in the sports press. It robbed us of some more mainstream championships. Only Alabama has been immune. They are like the token Southern member of the club.

We already knew Kirk was unethical and this just adds to his history. He should be fired and banned from ever being in the media again.
