Kirby said they “tried to rob us” at the end of the TX game, referring to officiating. Obviously he was emotional. While I do agree with him in regard to the reversal of the PI call, does SEC office fine him for public criticism of officiating?

A few years ago there were bad calls that cost UT a game vs Kiffin. They should have been reversed. The time UT's fans gave them by throwing things on the field should have given them plenty of time to discuss it.

I'm only partly being facetious.

Eventually the call was made correct in the game Saturday. While I get what Smart was saying, officials should not let the situation keep them from making the correct call. The SEC could do with a LOT more objective officiating that is careful to get calls right.

Maybe if UT fans had stopped the game... they would have figured out that a guy who takes 2 steps up field before the ball is snapped might be guilty of illegal procedure? Or maybe they could have reconsidered that phantom holding call on the edge?

my issue is they made the wrong call, discussed once, announced it, marked off the penalty yards, then rediscussed it, and then overturned it.

the bolded is the problem to me. If it was just throw the flag, discuss it, pick up the flag, then they would have 100% been doing the right thing. as it is they gave the message that its OK to throw stuff on the field, and you will get a beneficial outcome if you do so. PI is not reviewable, what did they do? they clearly reviewed it.

getting it right would have also included an unsportsmanlike conduct on the crowd.

Agree on the unsportsmanlike.

FTR, if the SEC does not fine Smart for criticizing officiating to the press... they'll have set a "bad precedent".
It's one thing to criticize officiating, it's quite another to assert officials were trying to cheat :UGA. He should be fined the max.
