Kim Caldwell's Most Important Offseason Move (by Paige Dauer)

Interesting video. Was surprised Kim admitted one of her failings was not teaching her players the history and pride of the LV's program. She talked about that in her hiring presser. Well whatever, corrections made and hope it makes the program stronger.

Me too. She was down on the mat about as dead as i've seen, but at least is back to life. We shall see in 26-27.
I disagree. She's never been down or dead. She's had the complete and full public backing of her boss and her organization at every step. And now she and her narrative are enjoying complete and full enthusiastic support of local media. She got a get out of jail free card. Things could have been much much tougher for her.

I thought it was going to be a video about joining VolNation and religiously following our thread advice... 🤔
That's probably written into her original contract, just like it was in Barnes'.

Of course, the trick is knowing when to do just the opposite.
Because our opponents can read, too. 🤨

She was coming back was no doubt when you started seeing so much about the players and previous Assistant coaches. Certainly do or die in 2026-27 as no extension was granted. I don't know what the expectations are, but can guess that sweet sixteen is a must and over 20 wins the minimum.

those numbers sound reasonable. Not sure the roster she has put together will have the size to make that happen.

I thought it was taking bad advice to not follow coach Jumper. She is now fully integrating all his principles into the program.

Yes sound like a good expectation, even though the player chemistry and step up leaders will be a big factor and is unknown at this point. I would like to see the full schedule & home/away dynamic and go down the list and put a W or L beside the game, before I lay out a low point number.

Pre season thinking beats
Mid season drinking 🤣
Definitely the way to invest in your future self!

That said, for many, both are exercises in adjusting one's perception of reality. I've seen it argued here to the effect that it's better to self-induce your dopamine hits preseason, than to depend on the team to deliver your dopamine hits during the season.

;) Kinda like how Wall Street operates?

hopefully she can finally get some of her own recruits in for the 2029-2030 season. I think that's when we will be primed to finally make the leap to top 4 in the SEC.

If she has a repeat of last season this season we’ll have another Schiano situation on our hands. Die hard LV fans and donors will not put up with another debacle like last season.

It's an interesting psychographic thought experiment:
How many high school seniors, rated in the top-40 nationwide (just to pick a number) would have reason to have a chip on their shoulder?

I'm guessing the COYS pool is much larger following a year or two of college play, when more players will have had the chance to feel undervalued or mis-recruited.

It’s simply a psychobabble cliche for the season. Watch for a new one around the start of the season and another near the start of the SEC slate.

I dunno... whereas "us against the world" has won for many teams in many sports, it's almost always based on a single set of unique and unrepeatable circumstances--or a shared rejection of socially acceptible norms, ala the old Oakland Raiders (and the '22 BaseVols).

A chip on your shoulder--having something to prove--is different. It's an individual identity with many possible causes. If CKC is successful this season, I think it will become the default recruiting profile for the future--especially if wedded to otherwise high character, high values player-citizens.

Only certain types of players can play for Barnes. You have to want to be coached hard. It took a special type of player to play for Pat, too. I think this one for CKC will have legs.

🧙‍♂️🔮 So for anyone who wants to laugh at another off-season, shot from the hip, crazy fan prediction... here's mine:

If CKC is still our coach 4 years from now, she will have requested that Adidas game jerseys include a small, invisible to cameras and fans, color-on-color (orange on orange jerseys, blue on blue, etc.) embroidered or sewn "CHIP" across the shoulder strap. It will be there only for the players to see and be reminded of before each game.
