Kim Caldwell Is A Bruce Pearl Type Hire

things will probably be a little different when it isnt carson newman on the other side. this team still has little talent, SEC talent, anyway. if she can start building that back up, she may have success, but this program is on the same path the football team was on for a decade. it hasnt hit rock bottom yet, but it is close, when considering what Tennessee should be in the womens basketball world. i still say the time she will need to fix it, if she is the coach to do it, will not be afforded her. it may be that what she accomplishes restocking the cupboard may be to the benefit of the coach who follows her. but we will see

You might be surprised what she does this season. She assembled some awesome talent in her first few mos. as the HC: Whitehorn, Spencer, Latham, Spearman, she was able to keep Jewel also. Boyd from HS looks like a grand slam. Her style works.

As an optimistic curmudgeon I'd say the cracked glass is half full. I think her ceiling is high.
Now it's time to watch the games before declaring the season a success or failure.
Why is the glass cracked? Or better to ask, why call the glass cracked this early? No signs of being cracked yet in this new season. It may very well be a special type season. No need to carry over baggage from previous seasons not belonging to this staff/squad tbh.

If the glass was cracked before, well, it’s a new season and that glass was thrown out with the new staff hire.

Cracked glass~ recruiting is much improved, but not all the way to where it needs to go.
In the chicken and egg scheme of things, I think this coaching staff will do enough to attract
the kind of talent needed to move from “pretty good” to “first rate”.

Any thought to the idea style

any thought to the idea she may be cutting edge or forefront in a movement for WBB style of play? I don’t know, but she looks the part with her teams to me. It’s like she knows something about the game others are missing. Thats just me maybe. But she gives that vibe and confidence tbh. I could see it.

With the relentless running and the three pointers flying from all angles to the fact that they both coached at small schools.

Expect Tennessee to pull off an upset or two this season.
These girls are in good shape-- no lazy, standing around. They are aware of what they should be doing and not putting everything on one player's back.

Coming to this forum with one of the most simple minded remarks I have seen in awhile shows how envious and jealous hearted a person can be of others for absolutely no reason. You are not only wrong but this is unnecessary. Not a single person including you can factually justify this opinion.
Every single LV fan, opposing fans, coaches, sportswriters etc. on social media last night that I’ve saw stated the complete opposite about the talent on this years team.
Even before the two games played where they have scored a combined 231 points including against an ACC opponent ranked #15 in the nation this team came in preseason ranked #7 in the SEC a 16 team league.
If they continue on this trajectory they will end up Top 3-4, to say they don’t SEC talent with three McD All-Americans and several Top 50 recruits on the roster is just bizarre.

I’m new on this forum but rest assured I’ve been a Vols fan from a very young age and always want to see success in all sports.I love the analogy between Bruce Pearl and Kim Caldwell and I’m optimistic that Coach Caldwell will bring excitement and a fresh approach to this historic Lady Vol program.

One thing is for sure going to play a full 40 minutes at full force no matter what the score is in the game. She is going to keep running them in and out whether the score is 10 ahead or 60 ahead so results should look really good for the net ranking in these pre season games. I can see us coming out of it top ten in the net as it rewards beat downs and a lot of these teams were playing look like competition where that could happen.
Media questions were always how good the team looked and although she heaped a little praise on a couple of players for their individual play. She found a lot wrong with the way team played and was totally unhappy that Carson Newman shot 39 percent from the three. Saying defense has to get a lot better when you force 43 turnovers no matter the competition was amazing to hear.

The part about not have talent is nothing but laughable.

I know it was CN but the athletic and BB talent on this team was very clear. They will be a problem for opposing teams this season.

Watched the game last night. The style of play is not what I’m used to at TBA. But maybe that’s what’s needed. To shoot 48 3’s and the other team only shoot 4 free throws and have 100 points before the end of the 3rd period is crazy. Gonna be interesting and exciting to watch, no doubt!!!

Caldwell is like Barnes in that she expects ELITE defense.

The still need to recruit better High School kids.. and have better communication with the top dogs. Hopefully she was on the phone with the top players in every class last night and not the assistants.
