Kiffin's Judgment?

I am with you on this. In the SEC you take whoever you can get regardless if you think they can play in your scheme or not. :birgits_giggle:

No no, this is bass ackwards thinking. In the SEC, you can't just take what you can get. You get as much speed and talent as you can. I think it's pretty obvious why this guy didn't show his talents off. I think you have overanalyzed Kiffin's thoughts on this player. We should view this as Kiffin's commitment to recruiting, to leave no stone unturned.

The original post said that he suffered an injury as a junior causing him to miss most of the 2007 season and gain some weight - That's not a good formula for a prospect when your school produces a defensive rookie of the year !

Petey Smith also said he didn't hear from UT for a while and that WAS due to the coaching change because when Fulmer was let go nobody and I mean nobody even made a damn phone call. I know I'm exagerating a bit but that period really hurt this class and I think Kiffin has done a he11 of a job cleaning that mess up.

I think you have that backwards. in bad conferences or with struggling teams, you take whatever athletes you can get. At a big school like tennessee in the SEC you recruit elite athletes that fit your system. Urban Meyer hs been recruiting the fastest athletes for his system because it relies on speed. Would you say he would have to take a 350 lb OG or a bruising RB that likes to pound it up the middle just because they are 4-5 star players? No, in his system, he needs quick, shifty backs, and lighter, faster OL who can pull or block the 2nd level more effectively. You can afford to be picky when you are a big institution in a big conference with a lot of depth and competition.

Trust CLK until he proves you shouldn't. He'll make mistakes, everyone does, but I'll bet we are gonna like what he does in the end. Lane is good at talent evaluation, according to people in college and the pros. Plus he may not take some for off the field issues, be that grades or warrants. TRUST him and BELIEVE.....CLK is going to give us a good improving team that can provide us with HOPE of great things again. :)

Was this kid offered? If so, I would imagine, like the other ones, he was told his schollie would be honored if he wanted to be a Vol.

Let me say that I've been pleased overall with how things are going so far, but I'm starting to notice a trend...

For defensive tackle Adams, timing was issue for Vols : Football Recruiting : GoVolsXtra.com

Turning away recruits, at this point, seems like a mistake. It's not so much that I think that Kiffin feels this type of player won't fit his system, but that we're losing recruits and we can't afford to, or the cupboard will be more bare than it is now come next year.

I'm not trying to be negative about Kiffin at all. I like the guy, but at this point, we're not USC and we don't play in the PAC 10. This is the 2nd kid who will play in an All American HS game that either stayed commited or didn't lose interest in us despite the fact that we fired the head coach that recruited them. That tells me that they wanted to be a Volunteer, and top ranked kids like this don't just fall into your laps in the SEC.

This is starting to bother me.

I like the fact that Kiffin seems to think there's no reason why UT can't be USC. Kiffin said himself that he remembers when every recruit USC went after also had UT on their list. A great saying that I've always felt applied to life is "Act as if." Kiffin is acting as if UT is the giant that USC is. That type of thinking is exactly what UT needs to get back on top and stay there.

We dont need to get just anyone. The stars according to rivals or whoever dont make much difference. Until I am proven wrong I will trust kiffin knows what he is doing.

Wouldn't shock me if he asked Monte for an evaluation. Either way, Kiffin has been around some pretty freaking good linebackers in his day. I'll trust his judgment.
If there will ever be a time for CLK to be a maverick, being reckless and blunt it's this offseason. He can afford to be blunt with those who don't fit his mold, or don't feel right, down the road it may pay dividends too.
