Kiffin still holding on

The rumor is, his momma always put sugar in his cornbread. You can't do nuthin' right in the south with sugar in your cornbread. That's a fact.
If you don't put sugar in your cornbread I bet all your food is bland. I have never heard of a southerner who ate unflavored cornmeal "cornbread". I bet you put raisins in your potato salad. Lol

It wasn't graceful...but I am over it.

I am more excited about OUR future!

I predict that Kiffin will continue to have success at Florida Atlantic. In a few years, there will be an A.D. out there somewhere who had a pervious friendship with him and will offer him a job. Maybe Utah, WVU, Texas Tech etc. etc.
His days of getting a job at Ohio State, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Bama, USC etc. are gone.

We have a secret ingredient called "bacon grease" and cook it in a seasoned iron skillet. You might want to try some. I can call my dog all day and he won't come home, but if my wife yells " cornbread! " he comes running! Raisins in potato salad? You eat it that way?

Sounds like you are eating cake...not cornbread. Slap that bacon grease inside the skillet that your grandma passed down to you.

We fired this guy. A guy who won a national championship, who won 75% of his games, who played for Tennessee, who gave his life to our program. I don't know about you but I'd crawl through broken glass to be only one year removed from an SEC Championship game appearance, to have our program at even that level again. We're all Tennessee fans and I agree Lane's a POS, but respectfully, we got too big for our britches. A guy like Fulmer, a future hall of famer, had earned the right to leave on his own terms. He might not have won another national championship, but there is no way we would have been in the shape we are now in, having suffered repeated humiliations for 10 full years. I hope our cosmic debt is now paid.

Very well said. Tennessee had not been "relevant" as many say since Neyland. Fulmer has had the most success in UT history and set the bar. A bar that will never be approached again in school history. Firing him was the 2nd worst thing in history of the program. The first was Hamilton beginning his internal destruction of the program in 2004. He tried to get Ainge to participate. Enjoy the success (almost half of the school's 10 win seasons, more future Hall of Fame NFL players then the entire program's history, 75% winning and the only real National Title in school history).

Had the powers went to Phil and said we need to start succession planning, Phil would have been on board. He would have helped. Instead the big names ran from the program that would treat a legend that way. Phil would have retired with more SEC wins then Neyland and would have been 2nd in SEC history. He would have helped bring a name here not the Kiffin, Dooley, Jones's. It has been a laughingstock over their every since. But.........this program will never again do what it did under Phil because it never had before. Considering the era, not close.

We use the bacon grease in the pan too.

I never ate sweetened cornbread and my mom never made it when i was growing up either.
I really didn't know people made it like that until folks on here talked about it.

Nah, but I have seen people do that. I'm always down to try some food.

That's the thing though, we didnt HAVE to hire a new coach at that time. We simply could have appointed Kippy Brown as the interim coach for the 2010 season and then conduct a proper coaching search at the end of the season when better candidates would have been available. Instead, our administration panicked and grabbed the first meat byproduct that would say yes. They valued trying to save one recruiting class over getting the right coach. THAT is what set our multi year decline in motion. It came from piss poor leadership at the top.

Kippy was NOT a big name guy. So, what if he was the coach in 2010 and the team overachieved? Then what? At you obligated to hire him, knowing that he is not the long term solution? Do you accept interviews and hire a bigger named guy and then be accused of not hiring Kippy because you are prejudice?
Almost any scenario could happen.
Would recruiting be hurt because he has an interim label attached to his name?

How did Kiffin's one recruiting class turn out?

He came to campus late in the recruiting season and had to take a gamble on troubled players or players with academic issues. Nu Keese Richardson, Mike Edwards, running back from Kansas who had a hired body guard etc. etc.
