Kiffin makes sense because...

Lane Kiffin may or may not prove to be the right hire for Tennessee football, but he's the best hire available.
I've been preaching this for the past 3 days...

I see where your coming from, but these are his opinions, not facts.

Same as most of the rest of us post here.

I was okay with either Kiffin or Kelly. I thought Leach was a scary option. I figured Gruden, Cowher, and Davis would say "no". Not sure about the TCU, BYU, or any other "U" coach. Winning in the SEC is a whole 'nother beast than winning in the WAC, PAC, MAC, or (fill in the blank).

Are Kiffin's "pre-UT" numbers important? Yes, but not nearly as important as his numbers once (if) he arrives in Knoxville. That is when the numbers start to count, and you and I both know he could have been 5-15 in the NFL, or 3-30 in the CFL, and that's all forgiven the instant he runs through the "T" for the first time.

Kiffin's staff will be just as important, if not more so, than Kiffin. And before you start harping on "why would a great hire need a strong staff", take a peek back at what happened to our last head coach when his staff turned out to be less than advertised. It only takes one idiot in the Engine Room to sink the ship.

UT, Hamilton, and Kiffin have the opportunity to hit a home run here. Or a routine pop fly to shallow center. In any event, the precedent has been set at UT: Win, or else. That attitude is long overdue in Neyland Stadium.

Hope springs eternal.

Go Vols.

I actually posted a blog on that on the basketball board...it is an awesome facility.

Not too big -- but big enough for this -- and very fan friendly with tix for $15 per two-game session and free parking.

It's like a mini-NCAA Regional setting.

This would have been a great road trip for Vols' fans, even if it is Thanksgiving.

I think you're giving Michigan State too much credit. Their football regular season is already over. I'm pretty sure UT would have a considerably larger crowd than they have if people weren't going to be in Knoxville Saturday to celebrate "Phillip Fulmer Day," or dance on the outgoing coach's professional grave, depending on where one stands on the matter.

Dickens -- that's OK.

Some folks on this board did quite a hack job on me in a thread the other day...putting words in my mouth, misquoting me, taking past statements out of context...stuff like that

I don't mind admitting when I'm wrong -- nobody's perfect -- but like any analyst/journalist I don't like being misquoted.

But there's a lot of uptight Tennessee fans right now, and that's understandable. Always easy to kill the messenger.

It's part of my job to accept criticism and hear other people's opinions. That's how you learn; when folks challenge you.

Some writers don't like coming to or participating in message boards because of the criticism, but I think it's interesting. A lot of fans know what they are talking about and provide ideas or concepts I had not considered.

I'll keep reading/posting on this board -- I know the guy who runs it pretty well and he's a very cool and informed person.

Stick around and post more than your blogs every once in a while.

Kiffin is the man. He is going to bring an excellent staff to Knoxville. The rumor that was breaking for weeks is also true about Sherman from Niota. Go ahead Sherman and tell them. If Kiffin is hired, Sherman from Niota will be in the high school relations department. I am happy for you man, I know this has always been a dream of yours. I just hope Coach K. is hired so you can fulfill it.

The upside, to take a term from drafts, for Kiffin is through the roof.

Yes, he is a risk, but if he tanks for three years and another coaching search takes place what has been lost?

Whether you like CPF or not the program is floundering and a new direction is needed.

Kiffin will be a total change and I'm excited to see what he can do.

Looks like the "Griffer" is jumping on the LK bandwagon since it appears he will be the next UT coach just in case the KNS editor loses him mind and reassigns Mike as the Vol football beat writer in the future.

You know, if for no other reason, this fact in of itself is exciting. Most of us had fulmer pretty well figured out after 5 years. Great recruiter, so so gameday coach, so so motivator, so so disciplinarian. We knew we didn't have the most astute or innovative coach, we didn't expect to see anything groundbreaking.

Now, its a clean sheet of paper. The proverbial "breath of fresh air." We don't have to expect the status quo for the next 9 months.

The sky is the limit, in part, because of the unknown... but its exciting.
