Kiffin finalizes depth chart for opener

Interesting. Some people jumped all over me when I said it appeared Hancock was out performing Warren. According that, Hancock is starting and Warren is backing him up. Hmm...

Does anyone else find it very odd (read: incorrect) to title an article 'Kiffin finalized depth chart for opener' that begins with the sentence:

A day before UT’s final preseason scrimmage, head coach Lane Kiffin released a preliminary depth chart for the season opener against Western Kentucky on Saturday.

The info in that article is not new. That's the same info that's been out for a week now.

Nice to see the daily beacon is still up on things intaking a story from UT sports that is several days old (at least it's a good way for young reporters to get writing experience). Also, didn't Kiffin say yesterday that the depth chart would not be finalized until Saturday or something like that?

It looks like the crime log is still the best thing they have going.

$30 worth of copper was stolen from a dumpster at gate 21 of Neyland.

There were a ton of articles written several days ago listing it that way. Hancock and Nuke are the starting WRs with Warren, Teague, and Rogers coming off the bench (until Moore and Jone are healthy, at least).

Can anything really be "stolen" from a dumpster?

Isn't that the same depth chart info that has been floating around VN for several days now?

Yes. The title of the article is just completely wrong. The writer says that it is the preliminary depth chart released by Kiffin before Saturday's scrimmage. He doesn't offer any updated information to that depth chart. I think he mis-titled it or an editor wasn't paying attention.

I saw it but I never noticed that Hancock was listed over Warren. It might have been because it was linked from an article about all of the freshman that were going to start. I kind of focused on that. I just assumed Warren was going to start after everyone said how wrong I was about Hancock maybe starting over him. I won't be surprised if Warren takes it from him or players coming back from injury take it from him but people made it out to be like Warren was way better than Hancock and Crompton's go to guy.

It will be interesting to see who stays and who goes from the starting two when Jone and Moore get healthy. I could see either Hancock or Nuke giving up the starting spot to Jones, but perhaps the other holding onto their spot. We'll soon find out who is ready....

that's what I thought, but according to the crime log the construction supervisor reported a 45 yr. old couple stole it from a dumpster and drove off in a blue chevrolet (he even got the license plate).

I would think Hancock or Warren would keep one of the spots because of their height but maybe at 6'1 Jones or Moore would be big enough to replace them. Maybe Kiffin will just play who is best and not worry about height. We know he likes having a taller wide receiver out there so who knows. He can only work with what he has so he might adjust for this season.

I actually don't care who starts. I just want to see some Tennessee football. I am getting antsy. Like a 10 year old waiting to open gifts on christmas. I will be more patient after tomorrow night. SC vs. NC State and Oregon vs. Boise St. is enough of an appetizer to satisfy me until Saturday. Just ready for some football.

I really want to be optimistic about CLK, but I'm worried. His resume isn't all that long... but on the flip side of that - was mark richt? or urban meyers?

Mark Richt was the offensive coordinator at Florida State before going to UGA, if I remember correctly.

Urban Meyer coached Utah to an undefeated season the year before going to Florida.

Kiffin was the head coach of the NFL's Oakland Raiders for a little over a year, and was an assistant at USC for 6 years before going to Oakland.

I am sure Ben Martin will get rotated in for plenty of plays. I hope he does anyways.
