Kiffin doesn't care if he offends people

"There is nobody outside the Tennessee family that will ever help us win a football game," Kiffin said. "We really don't care if we offend some people on the way to getting there. The bottom line is that our guys are motivated.
"We've said some things that ruffled some feathers. But you know what? We're doing that and I'm saying things publicly because [the UT players] have to perform."
"We'll make sure we know how sensitive people are around here from now on," Kiffin said later.
Bruce Pearl and Pat Summitt were also at the banquet and didn't hesistate to throw a couple jabs at Kiffin.
"I just came back from Florida and they're still talking about Coach Kiffin down there," Summitt said. "All they wanted to do was talk about him. He's quite popular down there."
Bruce Pearl was less diplomatic.
"My goal when I came here was to be the least popular coach in the SEC," Pearl said. "It took me one year. It took Lane Kiffin one week."

The guy is a bullet train...

Haha! thats awesome. Im also digging what Pearl and Summit had to say. Id bet nobody got too chirpy with Summit in Florida about it though, she'd prolly bust their head.

The GVX article on this same luncheon address...

“I like to have fun with some things,” Kiffin said. “The example I can give you is that Steve Spurrier came out the first day I was here and accused me of recruiting without having passed the test (as required by the NCAA).
“I didn’t call the (SEC) commissioner whining about it. I just shot back at him, joking around with him. We’ll make sure we’re aware of how sensitive people are around here.

“Here’s the point of it: This is about our players. We’re not going to win any games without them. We’re not going to be able to continue to recruit without a great fan base.
“The sense I’ve got is we have an energized fan base right now, and an energized state that’s excited about it. If it took that stuff to get that done, it’s working. And if it took that stuff to get our players motivated at 5:30 in the morning, it’s working. I like the way it’s going.”

He doesn't realize he's offended 5150 or Kushi. That may change his way of approaching things.

I hear she's actually pretty docile unless you are a raccoon...

I love the fact that Lane likes to be serious, but yet knows how to have a good time. I think we are in for a real treat next year!

I liked the comment about he didn't go whining to the SEC commissioner when Spurrier called him out on the recruiting test the first day of the job.

There is a dangerous trend emerging here. Having a chip on your shoulder is one thing, and that's okay. And even making a mistake and fessing up, that's fine.

But taking cheap shots and then having people excuse it? Or worse yet applaud you for it?

This is taking on a new and very ugly life of its own at UT. Hope someone has the smarts to let Kiffin know that, despite what they may be saying, it is not cool to outright literally call another coach a "cheater" and be wrong about it.

Its not cute anymore and if he mistakenly thinks that he's now given license to offend by false accusation, then I suspect it will be UT that regrets it, not the rest of the conference.

Were you a UF fan in the 90s?

Yeah, about that...

We really don't care if we offend some people on the way to getting there."

I'm sure you were saying this when Spurrier was making his comments when he was at FL. :eek:k:

Ok, tid, but just remember that the people you don't care about may end up having the last laugh about it.

Yeah, about that...

And from the SI article...
"I have to play Alabama every year," Kiffin says. "I basically stole their best guy. I have to play South Carolina. I took their best guy. I took Mississippi State's. Ed Orgeron was going to be LSU's recruiting coordinator. I went and got him. I also got Eddie Gran—he's the coach who recruited players like Cadillac Williams and Ronnie Brown for Auburn. I like to joke that we'd have the best recruiting class in the country right now if I'd spent as much time recruiting players as I've spent recruiting coaches."
Get used to the brash talk. I don't think he knows any other way.

LG,

Why does Kiffin bother you so much? I don't get the uproar at all. You all won the damn National Championship.

First, Spurrier backed up the bravado and, fortunately or unfortunately, that makes a difference.

Second, while Spurrier was a loudmouth, I don't remember him calling anyone a "cheater." At least not while he was at UF.

Third, there is a big difference between saying we're gonna beat some decrepit system or that some coach is not prepared versus explicitly saying that a coach cheated.

Had Kiffin just said that Meyer was texting or calling the guy during his visit to UT and that it was sleazy or something like that, fine. But when you say it is a violation of the rules, you are turning him in right then and there, and that he cheated ....

You better be right.
