It looks like the only SEC rival school that was able to cross Kiffin's fence was Georgia.......getting Austin Long and Marlon Brown out of Memphis and I do believe this was because both attended Christian schools and pious Mark Riche was able to influence their parents/grandparent(s).

I am encouraged that Saban wasn't able to pull another Donte Hightower to Tuscaloosa like last year. I was hoping for a top 20 class and I think we have it.

We'll probably just miss a top 20 class, but I agree - getting Teague back was good...and landing King and Gordon...losing Marlon hurts, but I think that Richt's open spirituality (and maybe O's open mouth when it comes to language) did have a lot to do with it. I just hate that we missed on what Lane pretty much called target #1 - but still...we did do a decent job of locking it down.

I remember when everyone was saying that Marlon was overated and that he played in a really weak conference and really would it be that big of a loss if he was not a Tenn kid???

We built on speed this year and getting some potential playmakers. We are going to have a solid group of WR with Paige, Moore,G.Jones,J.Green,and NuKeese Richardson. We got a great Defense for the next couple years so really next year our focus should be on a QB and O-Line and D-Line. And if we have a pretty solid year this year than we should finish like Alabama and LSU did this year!

No, I don't think that Marlon would be anywhere as big of a loss if he were not a kid from Tennessee.

...but it would have been nice to land the big fish in our own lake.

I am willing to bet CLK and staff have already been targeting all Tenn. players for 10 and probably a few for 11. It appears the 10 Tenn high school players are a better group than recently, more good players. Go get em fellas. GO VOLS

We did well with LBs and our secondary is stocked with talent. We also have a lot of scholarships for next year. We will need them because of a larger amount of talent in TN and all the out-of-state talent that we will be in on next year. I really see us having a record-breaking class next year and I think the timing of everything sets up perfectly. LSU, UF, UGA and BAMA will be stocked full of talent which puts UT in perfect position for a tremendous class.

I don't think I'd credit CMR for recruiting Marlon Brown.

Looks like his girlfriend should get a grad asst position at UGA.

Tough loss, but move on.

Eventually, Memphis will rejoin the state.

Agree. I think that's got to be the strategy that CLK used this year. He said no to some pretty darn good athletes who would have happily signed with UT and raised our rank. He was very selective with his recruiting and I think that's part of planning for next year.

Actually the rankings are misleading. In the Scout ranking UT is ranked 22 and Florida is ranked 21. However, if you go by average star rank, since our average is 3.47, we are in the top ten in recruiting (8). Florida is much higher. Note. we only singed 18 and Florida 16. Teams like South Carolina and Bama signed 27-28.

The new staff has done extremely well with only six weeks to work with. Let that sink in - six weeks. Several recruits have commented they were almost swayed to change their mind to Tennessee but just didn't have long enough to personally get to know the new coaches. Recruits want to feel a 'family' atmosphere and that can't be established within a term that is only a few days.

Put yourself in Marlon Brown's shoes:
1. What QB is at UT that will throw the ball to me? Ouch - only scout team status players.
2. Georgia has been after him a long time. He feels really comfortable with all the 'known' factors there.
3. A tidbit that may have factored in, too - his girlfriend is at Georgia from what I have heard.

I think the new guys turned several top players' heads and had them seriously considering UT even with almost no time to work with. Highly encouraging I must say.

If Brown wasn't from Tennessee it would have been like Alshon Jeffrey....

Big WR with potential that would have been a nice pick up but not a major loss....

Brown's worth was in his geographcal location and what it means to Kiffins main goal of locking down the state...

If we could have landed him then that would have meant we got every big time recruit in the state that Kiffin went after....and would have been a major sign of things to come...

As it stands it's still impressive we kept Gordon from Bama and pulled Teague from UF...I think next year will be a better indicator of Kiffin's ability to "put a fence up"

I feel just getting King and Teague make up losing Brown. Plus I think Nu'keese will be a bigger hit than most think.

We did not LOSE Marlon Brown. You can't LOSE someone you never even LED for, let alone had. Interesting the choice of words some like to use when things don't pan out. We did actually pull to commits from Florida in Teague and Richardson as well as one believed headed to Alabama in Myles Jr. Any time you can do that, it's been a pretty darn good day. I think the coaches did a heck of a job overall. That being said I think them focusing so much on trying to pull commitments from other schools late, cost us Stokes for sure and may very well cost us Oku as well. Big mistake in my opinion. Probably a lesson learned.
