Unlike last year, they have built the foundation of the run game and play action. Now they are pushing the envelope testing the line and QBs with added pressure/blitzes to find the weaknesses now so that come the fall they are corrected. You can't throw a playbook and say go get it like Clawson was told to do last year.

As Chaney said " Rome wasn't built in a day." These guys know how to teach the game and I think we will see the offense get better come game time.

I agree! I am also proud to see him weed out the slackers and bad eggs, We know we are not going to win any championships this year anyway, AND, We will have a lot of extra room for the type of players we need to sign next year and in 2011!

Win or lose!...hopefully more wins! I expect to see some fundementally sound football! I also expect there to be an increase in hustle and effort(last year 0 hustle). With that said I believe there will be a better team on the field than you might possibly think.

I think our D is going to be fine this year, the only thing that worries me is the offense. I think that we are doing very well for the amount of practices we have had and the amount of time we hve had to learn the new playbook, which isn't much. Like the OP said, we already ave a solid running game and play action, and now we are just working on just getting the pass going strong. I think that our line will show much improvement by the time that the season starts and I think we will be impressed.

you know,i'm not sorry there was a change in the guard made.it was time.i did like the old staff and what they had done, but things were diffently going down hill.but just think,if fulmer and clauson had just done a little bit at a time on installing the offence, say just 15/20 plays, got those down pat, then install 10/15 in the fall practice and add a new play or two every week, makes you wonder what might have been.
on this staff,it appears that is exactely like that. go vols and staff.:D

I think that we will be fine this year. We should be ahead of Georgia in the east, next year I believe that Florida will be trying to play catch up to us. Poor old Kentucky will continue the beat down streak. And Vandy, well they are just Vandy!

Clawson ran into a buzz saw situation at UT. I don't think he's a bad coach and can't help but think he had his hands tied by Fulmer. But having said that, Chaney is much better.

Chaney is a great coach and has been around much longer than Clawson. He is also proven on a D-1 level. Clawson isn't that bad of a coach either, and I think he should do well at Bowling Green.

I like that Chaney doesn't sugar coat anything. He calls something that is crap, crap. Lane defintely tries to do the positive spin thing...head coach talk. Chaney let's it rip, love it.

I hope they can fix our offense. It doesn't sound like it is thriving right now.

a case of good cap vs bad cop. Kiffin will put somewhat of a positive spin but also is very straight forward if your not doing what your supposed to do. The key is every one of these coaches is demanding of each player whether your a starter or walk on and whether you are stretching or in practice. Frank Wilson was screaming for the the offense to outstretch the defense in the stretch session. Competition all over will only help during the season. love it

The problems with our program went a lot deeper than the fact that we had a new OC and a new system. There were issues with discipline. Our recruiting of elite talent had fallen way off. The talent that we did have was not being developed like it should. The strength and conditioning program had fallen way off. Our special teams played more like special olympic teams. There was a clear lack of heart and effort with this team. There were many many problems with Fulmer's program that went beyond Clawson. I think it's pretty evident now that Coach Cutcliffe and yes, even coach Chavis has to be given more credit for our team's success under Fulmer than Fulmer himself.

Very, very true. We were never the same when Cut left the first time and not the same when he left the second time. We should have thrown a lot more money at Cut before he left.

With that said I am happy about the change.

Recruiting had taken a severe hit. We are seeing some of that now with our depth issues. We'll get it back though

This is a great point, if CPF had either stepped up with Cuts pay or offered to share some his overstuffed salary we would most likely still be complaining about the downward trend in UT Football because CPF and Cut would still be here. So it worked out best in the end for most of us including CPF who the ole ball coach said 'won the lottery' with his walk off deal. .]

he wanted to be a HC and UT was just a step to that goal. He was not staying

Yep. Bottom line is, it was time for Fulmer to go. Cut and Chavis carried the load for him for several years and he came out looking like the hero. His luck finally ran out.
