Going to work I listen to Satelite,,,,, lo and behold Hooker is a guest on Rival's Radio discussing CLK and his opinion with Bill King - the program host - who was trying to do his job by baiting Hooker on certain points,,,, Hooker was what I thought honest but also fair,,, wanted to spend more time with CLK.. thought CLK spoke too much before thinking, had no clue why CLK mentioned BB by name on his porgram the other day, discussed local thoughts about Kiffin, Spring ball being open practices for the first time in a while and how this is a carry over from his days at USC,,, Later two other guys also discussed CLK and how he has the program in the news on a daily basis and how remarkable this is and how his 'Q' whatever that is is through the roof.

I thought it was all good, so a great way to start the week off.

None of this matters...wins and losses are the measuring stick in college football.

I realize that looks dismissive on my part, I'm just saying that about all the negative press. Good press is a GOOD thing.

Any news is good news in the recruiting business. Lane K's plan is working to perfection.

Good or bad, no one can deny the man is sizzling right now and therefore so is the program. If these media types can't figure out the master plan here, then more power to CLK.
If Atlanta radio starts off their week with CLK, Rivals Radio the same, and we know that Finebaum can't do a show without CLK, so there's no telling who else out there is talking Tennessee football. Cause let me tell you who I didn't hear about -- the rest of the SEC.

They are either setting him up for the big fall should he fail to deliver, or for the major kudos should he succeed. Remember, what this is really about for the rest of the country is the Kiffin-Davis thing at the Raiders.

Media anxious to bring that all up agan and give it some legs and they'll do that by either getting behind Kiffin if he wins games or getting behind Davis if things are rocky.

Thanks Law, we would have never figured that out on our own.

Sarcasm noted.

I just wanted folks to understand that, outside of the SEC, the interest of the rest of the country in this episode is less in terms of the UT-Florida rivalry and more in terms of the Kiffin-Davis rivalry.

But again, thanks for being you.

I don't buy that.

Whatever the national media motivations are for writing, good or disparaging (the Orlando Sentinel - a Gator Jock sniffer or Saban browner Finebaum for instance), and radio discussions both nationally and in local major markets have elevated Tennessee Football recognition to a very high place amongst college football fans and upcoming recruits. Raising brand awareness to your market seems to be a high priority with CLK. His strategies may be debated in terms of approach but definately no debate on effectiveness.

You don't buy that's what people outside of the SEC are interested in? Or that I wanted people to think in those terms?

When I hear this brought up on local sports radio shows it is in the context of Florida football ( I live in the Orlando area). But when I hear it brought up on national media, while they mention the whole new guy takes on Meyer thing, they end up talking about the Kiffin-Davis situation from last year.

And then they usually trail of talking about Davis and his eccentricities.

Examples please?

Was that Hannity or Beck?

I just turned to ESPN, and the first thing I hear about is Lane Kiffin and a recruiting violation.

I'd agree with that. But that's part of the reason Kiffin got the job in the first place -- the thing with the Raiders made the national media interested in him. If we'd hired Brian Kelly and he had made exactly the same gaffes, the national media wouldn't be talking about him at all.

Tennessee was a moribund program that had fallen off the national radar. Hamilon wanted to hire somebody who could create a splash. Well, he got that. Now let's see whether he wins, because God knows everyone will be watching.

What difference does it make to the university if it's a big fall or small fall?

If he runs his mouth and fails that's on him. If he fails we as a football program will still see the same result, whether he talked or acted like Fulmer.
