From the scrimmages, etc. what do the place kickers, punters, and kick-off guys look like? Will we see an improvement this year? Especially in field goal trys.

Lincoln has looked the best field goal wise ( Oh no....). Freshman have a better yard per punt average then cunningham.

They may have recruited Palardy to kick and punt, but now that Parr is on board, I dont believe he will be doing both. We have enough good kickers to spread them around. Palardy is the Kicker (maybe not this year but of the future for sure) and Darr is the punter.

...because we would hate to have one person overdue it by handling both the kicking and punting duties.

Leg injuries are a kicker/punters worst nightmare and with a coach who strive for excellence in Special teams play, they are very crucial players. We have plenty to go around this season.

Kickers might be the laughing stock of football but this team is going to need the ones they have got.

FYI-Overdo means to exaggerate or carry something too far overdue is what your bills are when you forget to pay them!

FYI punter's is the possessive form. coach is singular, so you need a singular verb (strives). you also have two run-on sentences because you did not use commas. people make mistakes on a forum such as this because of carelessness or ignorance, but why do people have to call out grammatical and syntax errors? Let's stick to football...

My guess, Palardy kicks off, and long attempts. Cunningham gets his shot, Darr ready to go if he does not cut it. Lincoln (was 9/10 inside 40 yrds last year, 1/6 over 40) gets to kick the short ones.

I think that's just too many roosters in the hen house. Lincoln will kick FG's until Palardy shows more consistency (or Lincoln continues his woes of 2009). I think Cunningham holds of Darr/Palardy for the punting duties.

Darr was more impressive punting inthe first scrimmage. Palardy looked better punting in the second scrimage. I don't understand how darr's numbers slipped in the second scrimmage unless he was punting because of good field position or if it was good returns that diminished his numbers.

Hold your judgement on Palardy until he gets to rep with the 1st team, as was evident last year, our 2nd team anything was really bad.

They all may play a role in every game. Maybe something like this:

Palardy - kicks off and field goals over 40 yards
Lincoln - PAT and field goals under 40 yards
Cunningham - short pooch punts for field position
Darr - other punts and holding for FG/PAT

Last year when Pallardy committed, everyone talked about him as if he was the messiah of field goals, kickoffs, and punting. What is up with that? You would think if he can kick long field goals then he can kick short ones too. He has to be better than Lincoln. And I also don't understand why they can't give him some time with the first team field goal unit. How far does the depth chart go on field goal units anyway. The way the talk was, we were not going to have a kick returned for the next 4 years and field goals inside of 60 yds would be routine and now it's like we are talking about a different person.

Agreed. We are going to need all the kickers/punters all season long.

I was wondering this, too. Why not just rotate them in behind the first team field goal unit? Who cares if they are on the wrong team for scrimmage purposes. Has Zasnow or anyone seen Palardy kicking in non-scrimmage situations? I wonder if he struggles even without pressure.

Because reality is normally the last thing you'll find on these boards? Best thing that could happen to us is we red-shirt both the freshmen and let them have the jobs next year. First off Lincoln and Cunningham are a lot better than people give them credit for. Are they all SEC material probably not but they are both serviceable.

For this season, where getting to a bowl game would be a huge accomplishment, I don't see the point on wasting a year of eligibility on 2 young kid's and expect them to save the season. Trust me if they were to win the job's that's what people would expect for them to both be perfect. They might have been the best RATED HS kicker and punter but that was High-school. red-shirt em and put them in next season when we don't have 2 veterans to throw to the dogs.

Punting will be solid... What I am excited about is POUNDING the ball into the end zone every time we have a kickoff!

If our field goal % picks up then we will be second only to UGA in kicking

Have you ever heard of any team redshirting a kicker berfore?

On kicks 40+ yards over the last two seasons Lincoln is 3/12. My guess is Palardy isn't going to be red shirting.
