Short passing game. No interceptions. Keep mixing in runs. No drive stopping penalties. Burn some clock. Screen game was awesome last week!

Cover deep! Force Kiffin patience. Solid tackling, discipline, pursuit.

Get game into 2nd Q and 2nd half +/- 7 points and Bama will get antsy! Play on their attitude they think they should be up multiple scores right out of box. They will make some mistakes the longer we stay close! Use the Saban and Kiffen arrogance against them!

I have a bad feeling Kiffin is going to feast on the middle of the field with our LB situation.

Get the 45% of our starters back who are injured, and hope Alabama plays the worst game they have played in 3 years and Vols play the best we have played in 2....

Slow down their run game and don't let the deep ball get behind us. We did a good job of this last year, hopefully we can do it again.

Bama struggles defending the pass. Dobbs needs to be zeroed in on his throws. Let the passing game open up the running game for Hurd,Kamara, and J.Kelly to unleash hell!

HOLD ON TO THE DAMN BALL

GO VOLS!!!

Zero turnovers
If we do turn it over, we have to win the turnover margin battle
Zero "mental mistake" penalties...like offside on 3rd and short
Last, spot them 21 points

Of course I kid on that last one...or do I...

Using last week and Trevor Knight as an example, I think it's basic stuff. Our CB's need to turn there heads around and our LB's need to fill there gaps to contain Hurts on the read and around the outside. Good, smart, disciplined ball and we will be rite in the thick of things

ive talked about match ups all year. and this game...it's again about match ups.

this is the first team we've played so far that i'd say was appreciably better than us on special teams.

the defense is ridiculously good, but they will give up yards. there are opportunities to win matchups thru the air.

offensively, Hurts brings a new dimension, and if we were 100% healthy on defense i'd give is a fair shot. but being as undermanned as we are on that side of the ball, i'm finding it hard to predict how we'll do. this offense is good. and for the 2nd week in a row, we're facing the best team we've played all year long.

intangibles also hard to predict. i know Neyland will be feeling it...but for how long? we'll need OU/FL game type environment....

it goes w/out saying...we can't be nice and give this team gifts. we do that, they'll say "thanks" and kick our butts.

lastly...this game will be a lot about 1 on 1 match ups. how many wins can we get in the 1 on 1's....we have enough talent to win some of these. and some of these could be difference in the game.

Bama will play 1 on 1 on defense. they'll match up their WR's or TE 1 on 1 with our LB's and DB's. so if i'm looking at something to cling to....in those situations, you don't have to beat the whole Alabama team. you just have to beat THAT guy, 1 play at a time.

do that, and we have a shot. if they win the one on ones, they definitely win.

Make all of their Field Goal Attempts.

Last year UT missed 3 Field Goal Attempts.

That's 9 points that probably would have won the game for the Vols.

Ball security, and focus.

We don't have those, and go into fumble-penalty mode early, and it's going to be a rough time.

Our secondary is going to have a hard enough time covering Alabama's receiving corps without giving them short field advantage, and extra yards on every play, and the pass rush is going to be imperative if we want to pull off a win.

i think we all know the things that will get us beat. 12 penalties and 7 turnovers....we know how that turns out. and it won't be as warm and fuzzy as last week's game felt. lol.

so i'm gonna say it goes w/out saying....we can't turn it over and we need to make fewer mistakes.

I think being back home will make these boys a little more settled. Neyland needs to be the rowdiest it's ever been though.

i'd like to think so, but we came out tight against FL, and played apathetically against Ohio and App.

now this is Bama (but i remember saying the same about "now this if Florida"), so it should be different.

the reality is, this team has proved time and time again, that right now, thru 6 games, this is who they are (mistake prone early, slow starters).

if we haven't fixed it thru 6 weeks, hard to believe it instantly gets fixed this week. that said, i don't expect 12 pen/7 to's again this week, nor should anyone else for that matter. i do think we'll see some improvement.

but would 8 pen/3 to's be enough improvement to beat Bama? it would have been to beat aTm....

i love this team, and i love the fight they have shown in never flinching and turning the 1st half woes in to 2nd half "WHOA's!!!"....but they'll need a complete game to get it done this week.

Show up and wreck shop. Neyland will be "on fire" figuratively in 2 ways both appearance and emotion. We know how important this game is.

Ball control
Aggressive playcalling (I would love to see some more of those beatiful plays in Debord's bag o tricks)
Stop the stupid penalties
Don't give them giant chunk yardage
Contain or seriously rattle Hurts to make mistakes (or just take him out of the game...nothing serious don't want to wish an injury on a player)
Our defense has to really really step their game up Saturday. Next man up has never been more important than this week...I wish we could have all of our starting lineup...I would pick Tennessee without a second guess...

Hell...I am taking a real chance...I got 250 bucks for some sidework for a friend of mine....I am putting every last penny down on Tenn Saturday. Hopefully I will get a big payout. I have faith in this team...I just have another feeling we win (same feeling I had against Florida)

I agree, but I'm hoping this loss puts a spark behind them to come out guns blazing. Just one dropped pass or one stupid penalty changes the flow and momentum of a game, and I believe that is what has happened to us these first 6 games. We come out tight worried about not screwing up. I don't think it's a big thing. I believe it is just one small thing that can be switched around with a very small detailed change. Like a different song for warm ups or a slightly different pregame speech

I don't know if that is true, but you can expect trick plays and/or Kiffin to try something cute early to show how smart he is versus Shoop. Something along the lines of a few years ago where the faked the player coming off the field who then turned up field for a long TD against us. He'll do something cute to prove to the world how superior he is. He cannot help himself, now if Shoop and our D snuffs it out, he's done for the day and will stew over it.

Dobbs has to play within himself. I love the kid but after the A&M game....... FALL ON THE DAMN BALL.... they teach this in Jr High... Josh knows better but I credit him for trying to make a play. But still.... FALL ON THE DAMN BALL if we cough it up!

i think that may be an over simplification...given that it's reared it's head in every game. look, some of this falls on the players. at some point you just have to make up your mind that you're not going to fumble.

and if you don't, someone on the sidelines needs to find away to "remind you".

someone has to decide "enough is enough" and do something about it. that can be individually, or the HC has to do something to snap them out of it.

i've had similar issues in my professional life. you talk about it, you train, you cover it in meetings...and then, the same crap happens again and again.

i remember once, that was happening, im the GM, so as i watched order after order get cancelled because we couldn't find the right part, or the part was wrong, or it was damaged....i finally lost it. i went back to my production team, shut everything down and basically told everybody there..."what is your purpose here? if you can't provide the parts that our customers are willing to pay us for, then you have no purpose. so we will either change, or i will change you".

after that, we went on to have 2 of the most profitable months we ever had. my regret, i wish i had done that earlier.
