okay...
AJ's athleticism and physicality were close to those guys....
But AJ lacked the speed to play on those defenses.
When you say he would've been better----he would not have been faster...and that was what kept him from being better.
So, AJ lacked the ability and speed to play OLB....
And I'm sorry, but no way that AJ was better than either Wilson or Mayo as the MLB in a 4-3.
No way that AJ could cover 20 yds down the field in a Tampa 2--which is what Wilson and Mayo had to do.
I would ask you to re-watch some of AJ's films....# of tackles doesn't = being a good LB, esp. when those tackles were beyond 5 yards down the field.
I'm certainly glad that AJ is making the most of his opportunity for the Broncos...but then again, the Broncos ain't all that good of a team right now.
Dude, you’re so wrong. Way off. AJ was on track to be a 1st round pick and is 2nd all time in tackles at UT. You can’t be slow and do that. He literally didn’t play football for 4 years because of a ho derailing his life and still made the roster and looks great now in the league.
If you think what made Al Wilson or even Mayo great was going into coverage in a Cover 2/Tampa, you’ve already diminshed your entire argument with craziness. That wasn’t their strong suit at all. Did they do it some? Sure. But no one judges ILB for the coverage skills. Gotta do it but that’s like judging a RB on their swing passes. Main thing is the main thing. Main thing for a LB is see ball get ball. AJ Johnson hawked the ball as well as ANY LB at UT ever has. #2 all time tackler. You are the one who needs to check take man!
