okay...

AJ's athleticism and physicality were close to those guys....

But AJ lacked the speed to play on those defenses.
When you say he would've been better----he would not have been faster...and that was what kept him from being better.

So, AJ lacked the ability and speed to play OLB....

And I'm sorry, but no way that AJ was better than either Wilson or Mayo as the MLB in a 4-3.

No way that AJ could cover 20 yds down the field in a Tampa 2--which is what Wilson and Mayo had to do.

I would ask you to re-watch some of AJ's films....# of tackles doesn't = being a good LB, esp. when those tackles were beyond 5 yards down the field.

I'm certainly glad that AJ is making the most of his opportunity for the Broncos...but then again, the Broncos ain't all that good of a team right now.

Dude, you’re so wrong. Way off. AJ was on track to be a 1st round pick and is 2nd all time in tackles at UT. You can’t be slow and do that. He literally didn’t play football for 4 years because of a ho derailing his life and still made the roster and looks great now in the league.

If you think what made Al Wilson or even Mayo great was going into coverage in a Cover 2/Tampa, you’ve already diminshed your entire argument with craziness. That wasn’t their strong suit at all. Did they do it some? Sure. But no one judges ILB for the coverage skills. Gotta do it but that’s like judging a RB on their swing passes. Main thing is the main thing. Main thing for a LB is see ball get ball. AJ Johnson hawked the ball as well as ANY LB at UT ever has. #2 all time tackler. You are the one who needs to check take man!

Is Jeff Demps fast? I think he’s one of the fastest players in college history right? AJ catching him from behind on a reverse... is that fast?

Exactly. AJ Johnson was a monster. That guy doesn’t remember how bad our D was and AJ had to fly around all over. AJ on a good D with good down lineman in front of him would’ve been a total wrecking ball.

AJ is in my top 5 easily for last 25 years. I’d bump Mayo before AJ and that’s saying a lot.

Well, hello, and I am "that guy" you referenced.

And you guys have forgotten that AJ wasn't the best LB on the field during his senior year---it was Jalen Reeves-Maybin!!

And, if someone has to explain to you two just how much better MAYO was at MLB than Johnson-----that's truly saying a lot!!

smh...

AJ was NEVER on track to be a 1st round draft pick due to his lack of speed and pass coverage skills--that is just sheer revisionist history.
He would've been a 3rd rounder at best.....

And once again, AJ wasn't even the best UT LB on the field during his senior season---that was JRM.

Once again, you're mistaking # of tackles for LB greatness....

Using that data point--one would obviously have to conclude that AJ was a better LB than:

Hacksaw Reynolds
Craig Puki
Dale Jones
Kevin Burnett
Al
Leonard
Jackie Walker
Raynoch
Mayo
Jalen Reeves-Maybin
Westmoreland

It's just sheer stupidity.....

Henry T is already a better LB as a FR than AJ was as a senior!!!!

Just seeing the listing of some of our former linebackers is great. While we’re at it, might as well add Paul Naumoff, Steve Kiner, Jamie Rotella, Ray Nettles, and Alvin Toles.
