the immediate area is home to what locals still call, “skid row”, which is the largest concentration of homeless in the United States.

And the Clippers.

Ouch, lol

There is a distinct demarcation line where homeless people on skid row are allowed to roam by the LAPD. 7,000 to 8,000 people live in the area in cardboard boxes, tents and shelters and there’s no movement afoot to clear the area of the downtrodden populace.

I never realized that the homeless problem was that bad in L.A. I've always heard of Skid Row but I assumed it was just an old nickname.

LA most definetely does not suck

That depends.

If you're into dudes and or women with orange skin, it's a pretty cool place I guess.

You couldn't find a larger population of feminine 'men' and easy women.

not anymore than anywhere else.

As Jan Friedman writes in her book "Eccentric California"

"California is a place where much of the population is considered off-kilter by many Americans not living there. Not that this bothers them much as they revel in the uniqueness of their collective eccentricity. No indeed, they consider themselves to be in the enviable position of eccentrics the world over. They’re just following their bliss, allowing themselves the freedom to behave in ways that most of us would find odd or scary. They're quite blessed, really, since they don't care what others think, only needing to live up to their own expectations to be happy. They have absolute faith that their way is the right one and if you can’t see the light, well … it's your loss"

It even gets more different as she compares northern and southern California

primarily conservative Southern California is on a very short cultural fuse, reinventing itself almost daily. They have a "look at me, aren't we quirky" mentality that both shocks and delights tourists. The eccentricities you’ll find there are obvious and meant to be observed, purple hair, nose rings and all. Northern Californians, on the other hand, practice a quieter, gentler eccentricity by simply going about their business, not caring much whether you notice how strangely they’re behaving. Their weirdness is much less "in your face" than that of their southern neighbors who they basically consider plastic and shallow anyhow. Says one Berkeley man with contempt, "You can always tell if a woman's from southern California—she shaves her legs

Even Californians admit their different than the rest.

Dude, I've been to L.A. and the place sucks.

Speaking of stupid statements, people are not "pretty much the same everywhere". Go to Missouri or Arkansas and see if you still believe that. They are nothing like people from L.A. or Chicago.

You know nothing about where I've been so stop assuming. Also, people don't have to believe what you believe. L.A. is awful, period.

I've lived in San Diego, Kansas City, and Dallas(few other places not worth mentioning); And I'll be moving to Oregon next fall. I can assure you, people differ greatly depending on region.

i've been to missouri, tenn, arkansas and while the accents are different they are the same as people in LA (lots of people from those states LIVE in LA btw).

And I'm sure you got a good idea of LA culture by going to hollywood and universal studios.
