Kessling on Espn radio Memphis

He and Lindsey Nelson were the best two to have broadcast a Tennessee football game the I have heard since the 1940s.

One of the few, if any, that could make you feel what he was seeing all of the time, if that makes sense?

Uncanny ability to narrate live events...

Dobbs throws a great spiral. Heck, even a lot better than Manning. It just where that spiral has gone that needs improvement.

The man sure could bring into detail a Tennessee football or basketball game for us "older" fans..

Of course I'm partial, but he is unparalleled in calling college sports, imo.

I'm 46 years old and still get goosebumps hearing his voice..

Right with you 92. He brought Tennessee football and basketball into my parents home all through my childhood and adolescence and I just love the man for it and the way he did it. Just the best I've ever heard in my biased opinion.

Dobbs passing has surely improved. But I just wonder.....how much? That answer starts to come tomorrow. To that end, I don't think this is another year where receivers and the OL will shoulder blame in the passing game. IMO we have SEC quality there now with a great combo of speed, size, experience, and depth.

My point, if our passing is average this year, it will be all on Dobbs.

But then again, do we expect Dobbs to become a great passer. I don't. Perhaps all we need is him to be SEC "average" at passing. That combined with his running game is still one great package.

Stopped listening to the game on the radio years ago because of Kessling. He is without a doubt the worst broadcaster in the history of sports radio. Wish he'd get a permenant case of laryngitis.

"Wood's got the ball, he dribbles, drives, stops, fakes, jumps, shoots, scores. Gooood by Wooood!!" Jon Ward was the greatest. Football and basketball.

I've never heard anyone say that Dobbs doesn't throw a good spiral. That's a new one on me! Bob should just try to get the down and distance right. He drives me crazy with that!

Howard Wood could play!

He could certainly "tickle the twine"...

Kesling is nothing more than a novice, I wouldn't put to much into what he's says about Dobbs.

I've grown to love ol' Bob. He is what he is, but he sure loves the Vols. He's a pretty cool guy too

Underrated post.

Vol network should just pipe in the stadium announcer over the radio. Would be far and away more accurate.

Im sure Bob can't wait for Jalen Dobbs and Alvin Hurd to take the field. He predicts Cam Kongbo will have 2 interceptions

Why would you interview Kessling anyway? He's clueless. Always has been.

John Ward is the greatest of all time. Miss him big time.

Nobody said you have to throw a tight spiral. You just have to be accurate. Peyton Manning never threw a great spiral but he placed the ball wherever he wanted to and that made him the best QB to play the game.

Sure do miss John Ward. Seems like everybody else's great school announcers all but died in the booth.....for some reason ours retired 20 years early so he could go work in his flower garden. Ugh.

Sure do miss John Ward.

John Ward is an awesome guy and the best announcer we've ever had up on the hill. I have personally met him, going back a few years I had seen him out and about in west Knox on a couple occasions. He was always friendly and took some time to chat with me about Tennessee football.

Kessling doesn't even know our own players names, I don't think I'll trust much of what he has to say on Dobbs.
