ESPN is reporting that Kentucky officials are prepared to offer Florida coach Billy Donovan an annual raise of more than $1 million as part of a contract that would make him one of the highest-paid coaches in college basketball.

ESPN.com - NCB - Sources: Kentucky will offer Donovan $1M raise

You think Donovan would make this lateral move in the SEC East? Or is he prepared to try to make the leap to the NBA?

Radio in Louisville, WHAS, stated earlier in week that Donovan's wife was in Lexington house hunting...

I'm glad Kentucky likes Donovan more then Pearl. I could see a similar scenario playing out in a year or two with another school going after Pearl. Hamilton please take note.

I think Pearl will stay, that way he can build his own dynasty at a school that wasn't known for basketball.

I know the KY faithful are about to cream their jeans over all of this...boy if it doesn't pan out...*insert emoticon of egg landing on face*

Then insert some second tier coach...doesn't really matter though...it's like it's been stated before, KY b-ball has turned into the Bammers of f-ball. If they don't win it all EVERY YEAR, then they sit back and recall the good ole days and start screaming for the coach's head. Boy, i hope that never happens at UT...:whistling:

ESPN's story is about 4 days old. It was broken by the Cat's Pause and reported on Lexington TV earlier this week.

Nice job of reporting, DSPN! :good!:

this sounds a little familiar to a similar coaching search in the SEC a few months ago.

Lateral move my A**! Florida may be good now but when it comes to basketball, Kentucky is among the elite 3 or 4 programs in the country. When Florida loses Donovan, and I think they will, the gators become a middle of the pack SEC team.

I don't see that happening. Florida, love them or hate them, loves to win and will not put up with mediocrity. They will definitely slide next year, but that would have happened with BD.

Who DOESN'T love to win? I mean, there's WANTING to win, and then there's COMMITTING the big boy resources to win. I see them doing it in football, but they haven't done it historically for basketball. These guys play in a 12,000-seat gym that they don't fill up every game. That tells me that they like to win, but football is still of paramount importance in Gainesville.

Kentucky however, has one sport to hang its hat on: men's basketball. They will put a lot of marbles in this basket, because they are COMMITTED to doing whatever it takes to win, this side of cheating.
