Everyone knows that UK was losing a bunch of guys to the NBA, but some stuff I've heard today suggests they are basically starting over next year. Take a look at who they might be losing:

Seniors

Perry Stephenson
Mark Krebs

Not big deals

NBA Declarations

John Wall (Definite)
DeMarcus Cousins (Definite)
Patrick Patterson (Definite)
Eric Bledsoe (Likely)
Daniel Orton (Better than Average)

Possibly Transferring
Jon Hood
Darnell Dodson

Dodson is the one I've heard today. Hood, apparently, has never fit into Cal's plans and only took him because the yokels would have revolted had their local 4 star been pushed out.

That leaves:

DeAndre Liggins
Josh Harrelson
Darius Miller

Apparently, Cal told Doron Lamb that there are nine scholarships available at UK for this class. Losing 9 players and only having 3 remaining would be a disaster at most places. I'm not sure even Calipari (Or, WWW, actually) could recruit enough replacements to match this past year's talent. I doubt he cleans up on the rest of the uncommitted, though I'm sure he'll get at least a few.

Still, relying on a couple of returning role players and a bunch of stud freshman (That aren't as talented as the previous year's freshman) is not the path to success the Kentucky fans will demand, in my opinion.

I knew I was forgetting someone. Of course, it isn't like losing Harris is a big deal at all.

Do I recall correctly that there are limits on the number of scholarships you can offer per year (e.g. 5 per year even if you have 7 spots for example)?

I hope like hell that's true. Couldn't happen to a better guy.

Darnell should have just went ahead and came on to Memphis, but I understand why he went on with Cal.

Just a rumor circulating, especially on Kentucky boards. Says he does not have the lateral quickness to play defense for Cal and could end up at a place like Western Kentucky.

He doesn't have the ability to play defense at an elite D1 levelthats a fact. And the rumor has merit because it was also discussed earlier in the season. When Hood was left completely out of the rotation by the time conference schedule started, this reared its head also.

So, he's the Kentucky Skylar McBee?

lol. You could say that, but not really. The kid really can shoot the eyes out of it, and has a great vertical. He's athletic, just not laterally, which is odd I know. He could play and probably start for 3 years at several other SEC schools. Its just that he and Cal's system do not mix, at all.

Of course he was a freshman, and you can work hard to improve your defense. But watching him get blown by on the wing and baseline against the likes of Clarion and Cleveland St sealed his fate.
