I just had a thought that I want your opinions on.

Is Tennessee football the equivalent of Kentucky basketball?

Here's what I mean.

Everyone always talks about how the last time that UT won a championship, these kids were _____ years old. And people continually say that the tradition and history of UT doesn't matter as much now to kids.

But then you look at Kentucky basketball. Kentucky basketball hadn't won a championship since 1998 either. They had gone through some years of being good, but never reaching the NC status again. Then they had one or two years where they had bad years, and fired their coach. Then they brought in another guy who did okay, but still no NC status. Finally, after 14 years, they finally have a guy in who wins a NC, and has re-established the UK basketball brand, bringing in top recruits left and right.

To me, that kind of sounds like the process UT football is going through right now. The tradition is there, the fan base is there, the history and facilities are there. Just needed a coach to make it relevant again. And all of a sudden, talented players are coming from everywhere to be at Tennessee.

So, I'm just wondering, do you all feel like the way that Tennessee is coming back is in any way similar to the way Kentucky has built its way back?

Just a thought I had this morning. I know two different sports, but at one time, Tennessee football was everything, just like Kentucky basketball was and now is.

I'll hang up and listen.

Well, I know obviously, HOW they got there is not how we want to do it. Nor do I want to be associated with UK.

I'm just saying that if Kentucky hadn't lost it's tradition and appeal, then neither has Tennessee in football.

UK's appeal now is mainly about about Cal and his ability to recruit one and done's. I would say Tennessee is closer to the situation at Michigan with Rich Rod and him getting fired. The only difference is Michigan didn't have to play in the SEC.

I live in Kentucky and I put up with a lot of crap from UK fans all the time. They always bring up how many championships they have in basketball and that they beat us in football with a wide receiver at quarterback blah blah blah. They seem to always live in the past and never face reality. JERKS! :finger3:

The fanaticism of the fanbases is similar. They have accomplished more in basketball than UT has in football.
