Kendrick vs Richmond

Why is the LT position harder to learn than RT? I know it's more important because it is typically the blind side but what is the difference?

Usually the best pass rushers are coming from the blind side.. Unless you are JJ and he could line up at Safety.. With him.. It does not matter

I had a guy that played for the Vikings once, never a star or starter mind you, explain it to me as follows: It's like writing with your right hand your entire life and suddenly you're asked to write proficiently with your left hand. That always made a little sense to me, especially being an LT your feet and hands have to be quick and with strength as many of the best DEs are trying to speed rush and get around you. You simply have to be very quick with your left first step and arm/hand to get a paw on those guys to disrupt what they're trying to do. Once you've got it down on the left and right sides and know you can do it, it's just a mind shift. But since Richmond was a RS last year, he is anchored at LT this year, to me that is the staff indicating he was always going to be our LT and nothing else which means he has the athletic tools to do it, just needed strength and experience transitioning.

Well stated.

If a 5* LT can't win the start over someone like Kendrick, then he was never a 5* to begin with.

Truth. Look at other 5star OTs in the SEC just recently.....Tunsil came in as a freshman and was dominant. Robinson likewise at Bama. The kid last year at Florida. This year a new 5star LT at OleMiss is expected to start day 1 in place of Tunsi, and they seem to think they're not gonna miss a beat with him.....certainly no plans to redshirt him.

Typically, at least in recent SEC history, OTs rated as high as Drew was come in almost immediately and have great impact. There's something badly wrong if Richmond can't beat out Kendrick after a redshirt year where he was focused solely on getting stronger and better with his technique without the stress and distraction of worrying about playing as a freshman.

A lot of folks may not know or read his bio, but Richmond has an eyesight deficit of some sort, distorts how much he can see peripherally. Not claiming any insider info, but likely his transition to the left side took a little more given that issue than the average kid would to pick up and be proficient. In one of the practice threads, seems Kongbo and Richmond were invited to go one on one and with all the glowing accolades and bouquets tossed at Kongbo so far, the writer sort of piffed Richmond more or less held his own. I'd say Richmond is either real $#@!ing good or Kongbo aint all that with so many having difficulty giving Richmond alot of credit. I think the kid is going to be a great LT at UT. Time will tell.
