Well, he's the linebackers coach at USC now. It would be no different than staying where he is other than a chance to coach with Monte Kiffin. I don't know. That's why I'm inviting discussion.

People try to grab any part of the magic that they can, hoping to reproduce it, sometimes with good results, often bad. See all the Patriots assistants that have gotten head jobs.

MSU is a dead end job---guaranteed failure, which hurts your career. They need to find some old coach, who really doesn't care about future jobs, to take that job.

I wouldn't read too much into it. Probably because it's NMSU.

He would be replacing Hal Mumme. The defensive coordinator last year was Woody Widenhofer. The current DC is Joe Lee Dunn.

It's like former SEC coach purgatory...and more than a dead end job...it's a career killer.
