Keep hearing how bad the East is so lets look at some history shall we?

You always had a loaded UT, FL and GA that was well coached as well as full of talent to battle it out. Now I am not sure you could say any east team is "well" coached. The east is really bad!

I don't need a chart.

I know what kind of team Florida has put on the field during that time. I know what kind of team Florida has now.

Florida is not a good football team and they have won the division two years in a row. I know there are Gator teams in the past that did not win the division that would take this current Gator team and beat the hell out of them.

To argue that the division isn't that bad when a one dimensional team with quarterbacks such as Treon Harris, Luke Del Rio, and Austin Appleby are actually winning the thing is really a stretch.

There are Ron Zook teams that would kick the hell out of this Gator squad and I'm not kidding.

Thank you for continually trying to bring wisdom to the forums. I love the Vols, but sometimes I wish the fanbase and AD wanted to win as much as you guys.

It is bad, due to lack of quality QB'S.. There are a couple of promising guys here now and a couple more will be added next year. I could see it flipping around pretty soon. Really this year, everyone except Alabama, shake them up stir and there isn't much difference. It's a top heavy league this year with Alabama being the flag bearer.

Got to love the Gator troll coming in here and rubbing salt in the wound. Tennessee crapped the bed and should be playing in Atlanta and everyone knows it. Thanks for reminding us that Florida shouldn't be there.

99 is no troll, Carter. On the contrary, he has had well thought-out, informed posts on here for years and earned much respect from most of us.

I brought this up the other day and got hammered. I guess it doesnt fit the narrative. Think nothing was ever worse than it is know is more of a societial problem that effects far more than football.

Take away Bama and the west doesn't look so great to me.

Yeah, outside of Alabama the entire SEC is mediocre at best. Thats why I laugh when someone brings up the whole SEC dominance thing and suggesting an SEC team should get the benefit of the doubt over any team in the nation because the play in the SEC.

Your stats show FL and TN were dominant in the 90s and early 2000s. Now everyone is mediocre.

Op is right. It's obvious that UT and UF were the best teams with UF being way better in the 90's. I think now the teams are more eveningly better and you never know from week to week who will win. Which is more dangerous for everyobe but it is still hard for UT to break through while other teams have. We haven't been 6-2 in a decade. We are worse at managing a season now.

You do know this was the first time you beat Florida since Shula was at Alabama, right?

Count for me the amount of years where Alabama being on the scbedule was the determining factor

We'll gladly trade playing Bama for LSU every year. Agree?

Can you remember a season where 3 teams in the SECE had 1st year head coaches? I can't. You also have to remember that now you can get to a bowl with 5-7 record.

Also, there are 41 bowl games now. How many back in the 90s? Definitely not 41

When you lose to usc then we can't expect to not lose two more games.

I'd love to see Florida play Bama every year. They'd complain like no tomorrow. They couldn't even beat Arkansas this year. Sure Floridas the sec east champs by record but we beat them and that's all that matters.

Nobody has talked about whether the East has been down compared to the SEC as a whole. The crux of the argument is this, Butch failed to win the East whe its been the weakest its ever been. Taking the stats I have produced, obliterated that argument.

East vs West 2016
5 wins and 9 losses

All teams in East split their 2 games against West except Tennessee and USCjr.

Bowl eligibility is easier now with the 12th cupcake game so you can't look at bowl eligibility necessarily without backing those out.

Remember UT played in the Garden State Bowl in the 90's. Not sure when Bowls quit meaning a lot but its not as recent as people think. They were a big deal in the 70's and before. They have been watered down for years extra TV channels means extra bowls. Good for the kids but the Universities some times lose money but extra practice helps.

The Garden State Bowl was around 81...not in the 90s.
