I guess it's the done thing but I've always found the "timeout and sub in only to stand around for 20 second manuever" somewhat embarrassing.

I generally tend to agree unless it's a Laurie Milligan hopping on one leg to in-bound the ball type of situation in a win. Gives them a moment and the crowd and opportunity to show their appreciation.

Otherwise, might check with player to see if that's really what they want. It seems more appropriate for walk-ons or players who rarely ever see the court.

In Kaiya's case, you have a senior who has spent her entire career here. She has received the benefits of being a Lady Vol but also has given a lot back, especially granted her injuries and rehabbing. And with Caldwell's subbing patterns, it wasn't as though there wouldn't be the opportunity to sub in and out organically. Considering that almost all of Tennessee's offense came from three upperclassmen in the first half, nuts not as though she'd have been a drain on the offense.

But your point is well-taken.

I think the purpose of that is to give the fans an opportunity to shower the player with love when they enter the game. There’s always a long pause to allow the player to look around, wave to the crowd, and share one final moment as a player in the arena they call home.

Not embarrassing at all. 🥹

Yeh, I'm probably not normal. I would hate that.

More embarassing than sitting on the bench on Senior day? Shameful, IMO that she gave them 5 years and they couldn’t afford her 5 seconds.
This was totally uncalled for and very telling of the staff. Third quarter start should have been the time for only one trip up and down the court. That could have been something to break the dreaded 3rd quarter crap they been having. Waiting until the end of the game will always be an unsure time to try getting them in.

A loss for the fans too who appreciate and remember how she stepped up in Destinee Wells' absence. It says a lot about the culture.
If anyone is embarrassed it’s probably her teammates for not being able to get a big enough lead at any point to make it easy for the staff to give their much-loved fifth-year-senior teammate the opportunity to get the thunderous ovation she deserved.

But, yes, the buck stops with Caldwell. Kaiya deserved better, and she knows it, otherwise she would not have even mentioned being disappointed. 😥

Little things can make a big difference......

For a coach who has lost the support of former players, this oversight will loom large. Wynn's post was a stealth missile that I am sure hit the intended targets.

I just posted on another thread that I am pretty confident that CKC gets another year but "little stuff" like this could be a tipping point if her team crashes out of the tournaments.

Totally correct and the right thing to do to give all the Seniors their last moment on the court even if it is the first time they have been out there all year. It does not matter I think they deserve it and sad to see some did not get it yesterday.
Just realized, it is probably going to feel more than a little chilly in the locker room after this decision to not give Wynn an appearance.

Color me uninformed. I thought that all D1 teams started their seniors on senior night. if only for a couple of minutes.
yes i agree wholeheartedly and i think why are not these kids deserving as well the coach has made some curious decisions choosing to play a couple of people who don't give it their all or play good defense

Not defending the decision not to allow Kaiya her moment(s)...as previously mentioned, might have provided an emotional spark...but the competitive nature of the staff might have overshadowed the moment. Creme had mentioned before the game that a loss might move them from a 7 seed as far down as a 9 seed (in his estimation).

Speaking from experience at a low level both as head and assistant, it's easy to get tunnel vision during a game. That's where a trusted assistant comes in handy to remind the hc about something like this, although it's been mentioned that Jenna has the sub patterns mapped out pregame.

In hindsight, wouldn't have hurt. And in the long run may have proved beneficial regardless of the immediate effect on the game.

Gotta show loyalty to earn loyalty.

I don't if it was on purpose or Coach Caldwell just don't get it. I am inclined to believe the latter considering how we keep doing the same bad things over and over. I really don't think she is a bad person just got stuck in something she was totally not ready for and has responded in so many ways accordingly. Seems her whole staff seems to be the same as one of them is supposed to control the lineup and the subbing. The lack of organization is glaring.
