Kahlil Drew Rave Reviews as Guard

Not to beat a dead horse, but it's sounding like we can add KM to the long-list of players used ineffectively under Butch Jones.

KC Chiefs Scout on KM

Some teams were looking at him as a Nose Tackle and others were looking at him as an Offensive Guard, but the obvious takeaway is that he wasn't being utilized effectively in our defense. Pretty obvious in hindsight (and listening to NFL scouts) that he's a better fit as a Nose Tackle in a 3-4 or as an Offensive Guard.

Wishing KMac the best of luck in the NFL. I think he ends up being one of the steals of the draft. Chiefs got huge value for him in the 6th round. If he's a bust, no big deal. If he succeeds, they potentially just got a starting OG for next to nothing. Sounds like they want him on O-line, but I could see him succeeding as a big space-eating NT, as well.

As for our Vols, I'm glad Pruitt has been trying guys out at different positions. Some of the experiments will fail, but it's clear he's trying to put guys in the best spots, rather than mindlessly plugging them into "the system."

Folks on here laughed at my recommendation to convert Mac to OLine...there you go.

Butch's gift to the NFL...providing under utilized talent for teams to pull in mid-late round "value picks".

There was a highlight during the NFL draft and which Coleman Thomas got absolutely pancakedto buy Alabama DT which must’ve been 10 yards back from The line is scrimmage which was absolutely funny the way he actually got thrown around like a ragdoll

Can anyone translate this for me?

Well Pruitt wanted him to play on the offensive line and like Dederot/KB and Butchna said if he is going to make the switch might as well get paid to play the offensive line.

I just think it is funny that the reason he left Tennessee is because they were going to move him to offense and now he is offense anyways.... Guess he is the one laughing though... Making all those millions.

This is so true. Pruitt wanted him to move over to the offense and he declared for the draft instead. I guess this just proves that some coaches are smarter than others. Fulmer took one look at Whitten and moved him to TE and Whitten fought him hard to stay on defense.

I also looked great in circle of life drills day one as frosh, but how did that work out in real games against SEC teams.

I don't disagree with you. I think KM's draft-stock could've surged with a year under Pruitt. But he made his decision and we should support that. Happy he appears to have found a good landing spot.

From his perspective, he might've decided if he was "going to start over" and play a different position, he might as well get a paycheck for doing it.

Yeah, but what likely happens is he gets cut and never draws a paycheck; it just seems crazy he didn't stay another year. Not to mention there is a lot of history of people leaving early for the draft never to make a cent from the NFL.

Making all those millions, I hope thats sarcasm; he hadn't made a penny yet.

And there’s lots of history of the opposite. Two years ago I was on the opposite side of the argument because some posters were calling Sutton, Reeves-Maybin and Kamara stupid for COMING BACK another season. Then as now I back the kids decision because THEY take the risks PRO and CONS and get the information needed to make the decision for THEMSELVES. Worst thing they can do is let a bunch of strangers’ wants supersede their own thought process. Sutton and Reeves-Maybin did get injured and miss the majority of the season fwiw, but both got drafted around the same round or higher than the NFL projected. Made a decision for themselves and it worked out...short and sweet case study right there.

Memphis dry rub is da tix.

Forget about all that wet, watery Texas stuff and KC sweetness.

I love Texas brisket and absolutely love Memphis dry rub...

...but the best pulled pork in the world comes out of coastal Carolina. Complete with vinegar, slaw on top, and hush puppies. Man, I miss that.

break/break

Happy for KMac and the other lads, hope they rock long and healthy pro careers.

gonna be paid in the NFL as an OL....wow...I guess those of us who actually predicted this are not so delusional now.

6th rd pick, changing positions.....still quite a ways from “getting paid from in the NFL”.

Agreed. Even if he would've been a better offensive lineman, KMac was more valuable to US at defensive line. Our offensive line was fine without KMac, but can you imagine how much worse our terrible run defensive would've been without him? There's a difference between failing to maximize a player's individual potential and failing to best utilize him for the team. That being said, Butch's decision to play Tyler Byrd at WR probably failed on both counts.

Lol our offensive line was absolute trash. Any contributions from anywhere would of been helpful. Hell I could of strapped up and contributed

I am leaving the horse carcass alone on this. Everything I have read indicates Kahlil was stubbornly resisting the move to O-Line. Even his own Dad was trying to get him to give it a shot. Butch has enough timber on his bonfire, no need to add this log to it.

What is odd to me is him ending up at a AFC west rival of the Raiders. Seems Reggie could have greased the wheels to keep Kahlil out of the division.
