I believed and still do that he is a young gun but I am very disappointed in his ability to bring it to the QB in the first three games of the season. Florida had all day to deliver the football and it resulted in 3rd and long conversions that would make John Chavis look good. I thought he was suppose to bring the heat from all angles and I just haven't seen it. While I am no fan of dooley's I was very happy with the Wilcox hire. But right now Wilcox has shown me nothing special. I am not ranting I am resigned to a bad season but really disappointed in our defensive pressure.

Justin Wilcox doesn't strap on a helmet and pads. Can hardly blame him for our Defensive line not getting any penitration. They tried blitzing, dropping in coverage, and zone blitzing against the gators and nothing worked because we couldn't get passed the OL.

You can't win the Kentucky Derby with a donkey.

This just in.....UT has no pass rush to speak of. If you bring the house, you will get beat on long pass plays for TD's. The DB's need to do a better job of being agressive on the routes and the front four has to get steady pressure. Wilcox blitzed several times during the day but UF was in max protect and were able to handle the blitz. If we can't get pressure with our front four, then we need to cover better in the secondary until that get's shored up.

Yea but he did great against Oregon last year with 3 and 2 star recruits at Boise St. That's gotta say something.

I'd feel bad trying to grade any coach with the talent/schedule we have this year. In 2 years I'll start forming some opinions about their coaching abilities, but for now they all seem like good guys with great potential.

Fact is, our defensive line has such limitations that we are lucky to be able to stop the run, much less have an effective pass rush. Until we improve the talent base, we will struggle defensively. Wilcox will be fine when he has the players to do what he really wants to do defensively.

I still expect it, and admit that lack of QB pressure is the biggest complaint I have about last Saturday.

On the flip side, between Oregon and Florida UT has never had people in position to make plays against the spread like we have in those two ball games. We weren't outschemed. We were outplayed in the trenches.

very thin DL to start with, and then thinned even more by losing 2 starters before game #1.

we have a walk on playing in the DL. a walk on. in the SEC.

wilcox doesn't have a knife at a gunfight. he is facing heavy artillery and all he has is a b***h slap.

Oregon had one of the most inexperienced o lines last year going into the season that turned into one of the better units in the country. I don't need to say anything about florida's talent level.

If you ever said one positive thing about Tennessee football I might die from the shock of it.

ya gotta wonder why a guy like him took the chance coming to UT in the first place. he could have stayed at boise and got a HC coach in another year or two someplace. now his ability is in question because we have maybe 20 scholarship guys that can play SEC caliber defense? either Dooley is a hell of a salesman or Wilcox truly believes in the way things are gonna be done here

Everyone that complains about our coaches needs to do their homework and realize how many freshman and walk-ons or former walk-ons we are playing. You can dial it up, but you can't expect to get Alabama results with UT's players. We are young, inexperienced and in some areas just don't have the talent we need yet. The coaches are not miracle workers.

You can call the best play in the world but if players don't execute...it's the worst called play in the world!

I was feeling exactly like you do as I watched the game. Even considering that Florida's line outmanned our line (and our blitzers) on passing downs, I was waiting for some Wilcox magic, something completely unexpected. However, (a) it generally looks more aggressive and disruptive (particularly the LBs) in the early going for whatever reason, and (b) there were some plays (running plays for the most part) were defenders (and often linemen!) went in completely untouched, which HAD to be to Wilcox's credit (i.e. by design). And, one more possibility considering Dooley's comments that we can't succeed without pressuring the QB and Wilcox laying into the guys on the sidelines a couple of times after failures; maybe they didn't execute it the way he drew it up.

This. And not being in the system very long. Give it 2 more years for the freshman to become juniors with experience and knowing his system inside out.

He'll probably do what he's supposed to do, and what we expect him to do, after he gets more talent and experience to work with.

even when this year ends there are going to be many Tennessee fans not grasp the idea we are quite a few years from being in a postion to compete for the East let alone the SEC.......
