Defensive tackle
Maryville (TN) Maryville
Ht: 6-foot-0
Wt: 252 lbs
Forty: 4.99 secs
Vertical: 27 inches
Shuttle: 4.61 secs
Class: 2009 (High School)

He's likely a DE prospect, unless he grows a little more. His dad was the starting TE for 1985 Sugar Vols team. So, with the ties to the university, I'd say UT is the team to beat. I wouldn't be surprised to see him pick up an offer his Sr. year, then verbally commit shortly thereafter.

He's a little on the short side to play DE isn't he?

He's on the short/slow side, but if he grows a couple inches he can be a DT project.

I was at that game....We kicked Miami & Testerverde's ass. Hard to believe this guy is still in the pro's. I never thought he was that good, but I guess he showed me.:eek:hmy:

Smith is being recruited by some big time schools to be so "small" and "slow"

and he's about the same size as Jaccobi Mcdaniel who is a 5 star prospect on rivals.

the kid's only 17 he's prolly still got a growth spurt in him...

I would say he can be a DT even if he don't grow any taller as long as he can gain about 30-40lbs. I am not really sure that the height is that big of deal if he can get a good push at the line of scrimmage. It would help in being able to knock down passes, but that doesn't happen very often anyways. I would say this guy would be a very good pickup if we can get him.

The state should be pretty strong next year so the coaches need to do like they did with the 07 class and lock up the in-state talent early.
