Wouldn't it be odd if this is the 3rd time Auburn goes perfect all for nothing. The 93 terry Bowden no tv squad then 04 undefeated team getting left out and 2010????

If they go perfect and it's "all for nothing" (i.e., The NCAA finds the smoking gun and strips the title and the season from them) they have nobody to blame but themselves. Victory through cheating isn't victory.

You can point out Bama's shady past, as we've done some crazy stuff.

But it is undeniable fact that Auburn has never won anything in football without massive cheating surrounding the accomplishment.

True, without the cheating they're probably a .500 team, because that defense isn't very good, and Cam Newton would be at Miss. St. right now.

If this is all true, it is really a sorry thing he and his dad have done to the players and fans of Auburn. If the coaches or anyone at Auburn knew about this, it makes it even worse. You shouldn't build your season on one player, he will be gone next year either way. Then what , Auburn recruited well last year, makes you think about the $$? $Cam Newton

1992-Bama wins national title
1993-Auburn goes unbeaten, no shot at national title

2003-Saban wins national title
2004-Auburn goes unbeaten, no shot at national title

2009-Bama with Saban wins national title
2010-Auburn currently unbeaten, 3 others unbeaten as well

I'm really hoping history repeats itself.

Trying to figure out a way that CN would solicite/receive money to attend Auburn and no one from Auburn knew of it. Hmmm... Tricky

it's extremely unlikely that it would happen, especially since - for the sake of the human polls that only remember as far back as the last week - Auburn would play an extra game that Boise and TCU would not (and i believe it would be after their seasons had finished)

Auburn didn't get "left out" - they screwed themself out of the nc game. When Div 1 Bowling Green jumped out of their scheduled game, Aub elected to go with Div 1aa Citidel instead of finding a D1 replacement. Problem was USC and Ok both played a full D1 season. Aub had the weaker opponents. Not by much but enough to keep them odd man out. They dug their own grave

that and there was the love affair with USC that year since they had gotten left out of the previous national title game

right but you were stuck with a situation where 1 of the 2 teams wasn't going to be even considered, all season, to be moved down regardless because the pollsters all felt bad about leaving them out the year before

USC and Okl started #1 & #2 preseason. Every week they stayed 1,2. They won every game they played. They played a full D1 schedule. For Auburn to jump over either would have been beyond stupid and the coaches, the sports writers, and even the computers thought so also.

The ironic part is that when Bowling Green got out of playing Auburn causing them to schedule Div 1aa Citidel, guess who BG played? Oklahoma. All Auburn had to do was steal a Div 1 opponent from someone else and they'd have an argument. They didnt and went the easy route. It bit them.

i'm not arguing at all for auburn there. I'm just saying it was a difficult position for them that year, more so than just a 1-aa team game

(and it's not like UF has done it in their Championship years or anything)

and to be fair (and it unfortunately very much is who the main sports media picks and pushes for in the last weeks) the media was pushing more for USC and OU

Auburn could have played Miami of OH or whoever and they still more than likely were going to be left out. "SEC is a powerhouse" idea didn't start with the polls and media until 2 years after that

Don't forget about 1957. Auburn was awarded the AP title, but was on probation and could not play in a bowl game. The UPI Coaches Poll awarded the title to Ohio State.

And that USC had went to Auburn and beat them 23-0 the year before. Not that it would have any effect on the NC game if Auburn went
