That's about all there is to say.You can blame the bad special teams on it.The horrid defensive play.All comes back to hitting and wrapping up.I'am not ready to call the season a complete wash,but if the TACKLING doesn't get better.All this hope and optimism will be for not.With that being said another 9-4,8-5,7-5 whatever we may end up. That just doesn't get me very excited anymore.We've had plenty of those type of seasons as of late.Phil will get them playing better he always does.He will get them playing better just enough to keep himself out of the soup line.Thats what is disappointing.:ermm:

Thats only because he hasn't been coached up by our great staff yet.Don't worry a couple of years with us and he will be flying past guys and whiffing with regularity:good!:

We have to tackle better and we have GOT to get some kind of pressure on the QB. If I'm not mistaken, we only have 1 sack in our last 4 or 5 games.:no: That just won't get it. Anyone who is good enough to play QB at this level, if givin that kind of time, will look like an all American.

is there anyone this side of phil fulmer who doesn't comprehend that chavis, regardless of how good a man he is, is in over his head as a defensive coordinator at a sec team? its not like he hasn't had the athletes to work with. and anyone who hopes that this situation is going to get better ought to take a good, hard look at the trend over the last decade. its time that chavis, like sanders, did the honorable thing.

ArkyVol you are crazy as hell. :crazy: Get rid of Chavis, Come on! Get a life. I hate to tell you that if it wasn't for Chavis Cal would have hung 60 pts on Tennessee.

Posts like this just shows no loyalty to Chavis...so quit pointing fingers and KNOW he will get the D back to the highest level

I'am not going to defend chavis here.But if i have to watch another press conference with phil standing beside a resigning john chavis,i will have lost every ounce of respect i ever had for him.The ball starts at the top and rolls downhill.Not the other way around.Yeah chavis's defenses have not been good for two years now.We wasted a great defense in 05.The problems at tennessee run longer than a two year period.I don't recall winning any sec titles in the last 9 years.I don't recall playing in a major bowl in that span either.If CPF was head man at any other major university with his record over the last nine years,he would be gone.Time to quit playing favorites and do whats right for the university,not whats right or in the best interest of phil foolmer.

The disappointing thing to me was that it wasn't just the new guys in the secondary missing tackles. Heffney and Mayo both missed their share, including both whiffing on Cal's last touchdown run.

Cal has a very good offense with a lot of weapons. When you give the quarterback time to find those weapons, then miss tackles when he does, you can very easily make a 53 point over look conservative.

i hope to god you know what you're talking about. because, from where i sit in arkansas, i can tell you that UT will be facing two (not one) running backs on the same team in november who are head and shoulders above the cal backs.

That's exactly what I am thinking! Before the game, I know Cal probably has better offense package than us, so why not bring the blitz? 5, 6, 7 men blitz, blitz the shxx out of Longshore. Even Cal brings blitz to us, almost every time, it causes damage. I think John Chavis is a good DC, but we know our D line is weak, but we still sit there and passively take whatever they give to us, and let them making plays, what the hell is this!

I was thinking the same thing. If they struggle to tackle Cal's back, McFaddon is going to run all over them.
