• 1st year as HC
• Brand New Scheme
• Butch’s left over players
• Took over an 0-8 SEC team

What did you expect? National Title? SEC Championship?

Still way too early to tell if Pruitt is the right man for the job but giving up already over his 1st game is the most ridiculous thing ever.

Stop hoping for an instant fix because it’s going to take time to get us back on a Championship Level.

His recruiting is going very well so far and he’ll eventually have the players HE specifically wants for his system.

If Pruitt is the guy, great. If not, oh well.

But stop the “Oh Woe is Me!” and move on.

Agree with this. Today everyone wanted instant improvement over last year, but I think what we should be looking for is improvement from week to week. Will we be a better team in late October than we were today? That will say more about Pruitt than today’s results

Lane Kiffin has some less than stellar talent at FAU and they got handled much worse than we did today. People there is no way you can judge this coaching staff in a game one product. That’s just dumb.
Comparing his FAU OU game at this point to his Tennessee performance is nothing but a red herring on your part.

I’m pretty certain Saban went 6-6 in his first season taking over a less than talented Bama squad. It’s year one and game one at that. Pruitt will get a surprise or two this year but we shouldn’t expect to be where most people think we should be. I honestly thought we had better talent than we do. I was proven sadly wrong today. He will get the best of this team this year...just wait

I believe it was stated during the game that the Vols have 9 seniors on the team and only 5 play. CJP got hired last year very late in the recruiting process. Anyone thinking the mess that our new HC inherited was a quick fix obviously does not have a clue about building a program for a team that went 4-8 and did not win one conference game. I'd simply ask to give our new HC some time to recruit his players. Yes, I understand that fans are impatient, but let's not bail on our HC yet. Give him some time and I think we will be rewarded with a team we can all be proud of.
This. I mean sure today was a bitter pill but come on. We showed some flashes offensively and got picked apart on D. We had tackles made by I think 5 freshman and sophomore defensive back who were playing against a fifth year senior Heisman candidate who’s going to play on Sundays, throwing to a couple receivers who are also solid NFL draft prospects. To call this a mismatch is understating things ever so slightly. We’ll improve. We’ll play games we’re favored in this year, in conference. We’ll win games and we’ll struggle through some more mismatches. Buckle up!

Why? You were saying that Kiffin inherited a bad team. I’m just going off of your idea that it’s all about coaching
It was a comment on the results within his season here, not a general comment on his coaching resume. He and or his staff had noticeable results immediately and over the course of the season that bred optimism. That does not appear to be happening now. That has nothing to do with his one game result this weekend under whatever circumstances. Plus, his OM game show a bad game is possible, but that game fell in a spot that had distracted preparation and not at a point with extended preparation time.

Yeah, but the big difference is Saban had already won a National Championship at LSU and built that program into a powerhouse, left for the NFL and then came back to the college level. He was proven. Meanwhile, we keep hiring Jim Bob Cooter's who was eighth on our list because no coach in their right mind will come here and expect to survive the dumpster fire that is the UT football program since 2008.

I was more embarrassed by the lack of sound tackling and the multiple blown coverages that could have resulted in more touchdowns for west Virginia, I was on the hotel elevator and told the wv fan good game he preceded to tell me "It was only tennessee I'm more worried about every team in the big 12" that's about as bad as a swift kick to the nuts.
Should have told him winning the big 12 is like competing for 4th or 5th in the playoffs.

Seriously people need to calm down. This first game was Pruitt’s first chance to see how this team would react in a real game and unfortunately it wasn’t the cupcake that many made WVU out to be in their heads.
Now I will say I doubt WVU competes for a playoff spot and I doubt they will even have a real shot at the Big 12 title but they are also far from the cupcake this team needed to play its first game against to build confidence and release all their jitters. A true cupcake would e made it a lot easier to see and fix certain problems. This game made it so certain problems had to ignored just so we could try and stop them and certain things had to be ignored in an attempt to put points on the board, no matter how ineffective those efforts were.

This team has talent but it also has years of bad habits and bad coaching to get over before they will look better. I’m in wait and see mode and this year all I hope to see is improvement in the fundamentals through the season.
