Two stories just from today... I was talking to a friend who's wife is a teacher. She's tutoring a student teacher at the elementary level. This student teacher is teaching the kids about how to tell time on an analog clock. She says that since it's a quarter past eleven, and since a quarter is worth 25 cents then it's 25 past eleven. This woman should never be allowed to teach anyone at any level.

Second, today, I was purchasing an item for $5,50 and I gave the clerk $10.50 expecting a $5 in change. The clerk gave me $4.50 and I asked her were my other 50 cents were. She said that she only put $10 into the machine and it said she should give me $4.50 in change. I asked her where the other 50 cents went and she said she gave it to me when she gave me $4.50 change. I explained that I gave her $10.50 for a $5.50 purchase and that the change was $5.00 not $4.50. She said, she gave me the 50 cents when she gave me $4.50. Now here's where it starts to get even more ridiculous, her supervisor comes in and she can't figure it out, so she calls in the manager who comes in and has to use the calculator on her iPhone to figure out that they actually owe me $5.00. None of these people should be employed at any level involving monetary transactions.

We've go some real problems with our educational systems these days. This kind of ignorance will destroy not only our country, but the whole world.

I was coaching a wrestling team when my sons were in high school at a tournament all the coaches were standing around when the director said we have 48 kids in 125 how should we break that? All the 20something coaches pulled out there phones and opened calculators. I said “are y’all kidding me?!? That’s 8 groups of 6” they were all amazed I did that in my head.
We don’t educate anymore

I still use expressions like "quarter after," "half past," and "quarter till" in class.
I have to explain this 3-4 times a year.
as 95 says, it ain't just the kids

Daughter's HS fast pitch team had a play day yesterday with three other local teams. Admission was $7 per adult. I paid a $20 for wife and I. Got $7 back in change. Later in the day ,bought items from concession stand . Total was $6 . Paid a $20 got $16 back in change. It's the end of the world as we know it.

Maybe the person you dealt with was mentally challenged (intellectually disabled). You choose the word. I know someone who works at a Dollar Store or similar because they are getting "bottom of the barrel" employees.
So yeah, it's where we are.

The same happens in other countries. Stupidity is universal.

This is where we are at today, and a big underlying problem that we have, and I don't know how it has happened is that the "Common sense" has left the building, and I truly do not understand how that has happened. Maybe people don't problem solve anymore, but I see it in sales. Here is a prime example that happened years ago....and it will blow your mind. A dinning room table and chairs was purchased and it was $1199 and at the counter she was told that delivery was $49.00, so she replied that the same suit was down the street and they had free delivery and she could get it for $1400.....so there you go, and that was years ago and I see it often.

Glued to cell phones 24/7
Yes, they watch Tic Toc and so they get these very short videos, custom to what they like, complements of Ai, and so they stay glued because they want to see what the next video is and then the next one and so on, and that in and of itself is ruining young people of ambition. I went to McDonald's and a very young fellow came over to take my order and he was starring at his phone and put it down while he took my order and then picked it back up to walk 8 feet to get my fries and looked at his phone in between getting my fries and hamburger. Another thing is that
Young people these days don't care anything about getting their license or driving or getting a car, just let them watch Tic Toc on the couch and they are happy. When I was their age i could not wait to get my license, a job, a car and then get my own place.

Actually, this issue with the change happened at a McDonald's drive threw window. Jammed the whole place up for a while.

Also, I'd like to add that their are plenty of smart young people out there. I've agreed to pay for my granddaughter's MBA program. She's coming this weekend to make her presentation to me about the MBA programs she's considering. She's an honors college grad who completed her undergrad without any debt. I'm quite proud of her and it's time to pay it forward so to speak.
